Is anyone taking this medication Escitalopram as I have just started it 10mg because I couldn’t tolerate sertraline. Have you had side effects, spacey/really bad headpain, if so how long did it take to go please

I’ve been on it for about 4-5 months. No side effects other than libido lowered slightly. I’m prone to headaches and I’ve not found issue with this medication at all. I am on 10mg for anxiety. Hope that helps.

Hi there! I'm on 10mg as well. Other than decreased libido, I haven't noticed other side effects. The decreased libido didn't go away. I hope you're able to find relief!

Hi kippy2, how have you been feeling on escitalopram? I was on sertraline for 8 weeks and it really didn't agree with me. Ive just done 8 days on escitalopram 10 mg and so far so good. No side affects like with sert. Sleep could be a bit better but im hoping that will improve as i start to feel better

Hi Lynxlou, thanks for your reply. I’m on day 12 today, feel tired, was quite spacey but that’s not as bad now, I have noticed a slight improvement in mood which I’m pleased about, early days should improve more as the days go on. Are you taking it for depression and anxiety, like me?

That's good you have seen a little improvement as it shows its starting to work. Yeah i feel tired a little too but im hoping that will be better when sleep improves. I take it for GAD/Health anxiety. I know its still early days but i feel better than I did already on sertraline, that med just left me with more symptoms

yes I’m trying to be positive, glad you’re feeling some improvement already. May it. continue to improve. The Sertraline was absolutely horrendous for me and yet I know other people that take it with no problems. It would be nice to keep in touch with you as we are both new to Escitalopram and suffering both depression and anxiety, would you be happy to stay in touch and share our journeys?

Hi Kippy 2, I’ve suffered from drug resistant depression and anxiety for years now and was put on excitalopram - Lexapro- a few years ago. I’ve never been on an antidepressant this long. It seems to be helping more than any of the other drugs have and I’ve had no side effects. My doctor has had me on just about every drug out there and have had terrible side effects to many of them while others did absolutely nothing to help.. it’s been a long miserable time of being a Guinea pig testing out drugs. The lexapro doesn’t seem to do a lot for the anxiety so when it gets really bad I take alprazolam and between these 2 drugs I’m doing alright. I’m at a point that I’m not willing to let my doctor change any meds because is suffering side effects. I’ve not been so seriously depressed so I can work with this. A support group would really help. When I saw this group it looked like something promising. Best of luck to you. You’re on a low dose right now so if you’re tolerating it well so far you might do well increasing the dose if your doctor suggests trying that. Keep us posted!

Hi thanks for your reply I’m on day 15, still feeling spacey and headache. I’m glad you have felt positive results, what dose are you on and how long on it, hope you don’t mind me asking

Did you experience any side effects even if mild?

I’m only on 20 mg right now. My doctor was determined to find the perfect “cocktail” of antidepressants for me and kept adding as much as she could to the 20mg lexapro and I’d really feel spaced out. I kept going off the extras one by one until I waś down to just the lexapro. I’m not perfect- I still have to fight off depressive episodes at times but it’s so much better to be able to think straight than to be overly medicated.

Well I’m glad it’s helping you and thanks for your reply. I know people who do well on Sertraline but it was a nightmare for me. I’m hoping the Escitalopram will work well for me

oh. I’ve been on this for 3 or 4 yrs at least. I’ve had nightmare experiences being on certain antidepressants and trying to taper off of them. It took over 6 months to finally get off one of them! Trying to get the doctor to take it seriously was a joke. They figure since it was prescribed for depression, that it’s all in your head!
