Well, I fully intended to be running a virtual 10k this week but having had a cold which doesn’t want to go away, I just haven’t been able to get out enough to increase distance. So I decided to join in a volunteer-based run at the north of Portsea Island this morning. It’s similar to parkrun but without the official times, and is very family friendly. It is a nice thing to do when UpTheStanley and I volunteer at parkrun, like we did yesterday.
It was 8C but felt like 5C in the 25 mph breeze, and I probably should have put an extra layer over my long sleeved top. Breathing is not back to normal yet, so a bit of jeffing needed in the last 2k.
UTS is having a cataract operation tomorrow so won’t be able to run for 3 weeks so he was pleased I dragged him out to have a good run today.

Nice one Dexy, and UTS, hope your cold completely disappears soon. Ah cataracts, having mine done changed my life last year, I was told no running for 2 weeks but at the speed I was going it was hardly running anyway. All the best and heal quickly UTS,
Thank you Sue. I am sure he will be checking again when he goes in as it just shows gym work as 3 weeks on his information bundle. It is the raised blood pressure they are concerned with I think. I remember you were amazed at the difference when you had yours done.
Literally, about 4 minutes and he pulled the thing off that covered my face, stuck an eye shield on, said sit up and off you go, I sat up and was like Wow! I can see so much better, I had to turn the brightness down on my watch and phone as I sat in recovery because what was just dull colours were dazzling me, I was fascinated and still am at how clear everything is , I sat and watched loads of wildlife programmes over the next few days and the difference was huge
Well done for making that happen today Dexy! Not easy when you're still trying to get over a cold, and have the unknown quantity of next week ahead of you.
Very best to UTS for the cataract op. Having 'nursed' my father after his first one, I was summarily dismissed and unnecessary for the second one! He took no notice of the warnings to curb physcal activity; my 'nursing' rapidly turned into nagging!!!
No, Garmin watch recorded it as 35:27 running time and it down loaded it to Strava which changed the time. It often does that. So my official time is 35:27
You can’t keep a good woman down! Well done on braving the elements and getting any sort of run in. Our youngest bought me a hat like your’s for Christmas; it weighs a ton! Neck cross training as you run!
Great photo of you and UTS, no virtual 10K, sorry about your cold Dexy but hopefully it will go soon, nice 5K run at Portsea Island and a great time of 35:30 which was quicker than my 5K run which I ran last Tuesday in a time of 37:28, the reason for that slower run was the weather was very cold, I wore jogging trousers rather than shorts, a light and thicker jumper and a scarf and thick bonnet, all that seemed to hold me back a bit, the only good thing about that run was I had negative splits, first kilometer was 7:53 and the last between 4 and 5K was 6.37.
well done on your 5k run at a very respectable time. I only go that fast when I'm feeling good. It was a local walk for me, but glad to get out. Best wishes to UTS for op tomorrow, and good luck with the nursing!
If I had run at a steady 7.00 min/km I probably wouldn’t have had to walk any of it but my pace was much higher at times, especially when the wind was behind me. My breathing couldn’t keep up with my legs. 😂
