Nothing like killing three birds with one stone!
Had a bit of a sore week as both my Achilles have been playing up, so this has been my longest run of the week. I'm currently wondering if I'll be up to doing the HM as I really need to cut back. It's my own silly fault for totally forgetting to take any rest breaks throughout lockdown and I'm paying for it now. Running was just my mental health saviour and the physical side has only just manifested itself.
So Katnap and I do DamienAir's virtual 5k each week, which obviously turned into our (not)parkrun (although I'm the only one of us who logs it as it's way too slow for Katnap these days!!). It's the same route every week but it's much hillier than our pancake flat parkrun route so I'm hoping the extra hills will make me super speedy when it finally returns (if I'm not totally over the hill by the time that happens!).
This week I knew I was going to have to take it slower, which was very annoying but a necessity - the last thing I could deal with would be one of them popping, that would finish my world tbh. So a slower start and a progressive run, dodging dog walkers and cars (we left it later than usual). Thankfully it was much cooler than last week at 16C but there was still 100% humidity so the sweat was still dripped as we went round.
We steadily ramped it up and I felt good all things considered, breathing much better with the steadier increase in speed. Came in at 29:15 so very happy in the end as I was expecting it to be well over 30 minutes.
As soon as I got home I had some nuts for protein and some jelly babies for gelatin, stretched, had a shower and lathered the ibuprofen gel on my ankles. 4 hours later and the Achilles aren't feeling too bad. Got a sports massage in a couple of weeks and just generally going to take it easier for a bit. I'm also getting some barefoot trainers to walk around in to stretch them a little more when I'm out and about (not for running). Fingers crossed.
Happy running everybody!
