Thank you for the Pom poms today 😃 I was spurred on by them and the attendance of my boys and grandson who came to see me race for the first time.
Not only did I slay the ghost of my nemesis, but I got personal bests in both of my races.
I’m now 5th in the UK at 60m up from 14th.
So the year ends for me with a PB in the 100m and 60m ranking 1st (electronic timing) and 5th respectively. A silver in the 4x100 relay at the world championships was the highlight of my year, but having my boys with me here tonight was the very best!
Thank you to all my VRBs for your support and encouragement. I hope to inspire many more on my journey.
Happy, healthy and peaceful 2025 to you all. 🥂

That's a fabulous end to your racing year Brian, I'm sure many of us await your next year achievements too and will be supporting you and cheering you home
Brilliant! A lovely photo. The smiles on your faces say it all! What a wonderful end to a fantastic, recording breaking year for you. Best wishes for even more successes in 2025. Happy running. 😁
Sulley101 , Thank you for your kind words, it has truly been up there as one of the best years so far. Yes, I hope to keep going for more in 2025 starting with my first ever British Masters Indoor Championships at the end of February. I seem to set the bar higher every year. I have no business running at that event as it’s not my forte but never say never!!
what a lovely photo of some charming chaps! So much joy in those smiles. Congratulations on your achievements Brian, looking forward to reading about more in the new year. Xx
Thank you Jools2020 . I hope you are feeling better now after feeling unwell a few weeks back and that your longer runs are are also feeling stronger. Take care.
You never fail to make us proud RunBrianRun ! Our personal homegrown superstar! What a thrill to have your ultimate support team with you this time though. Bet they made some noise! 👏👏👏👏
Whoop whoop 🥳. What a brilliant end to your running year RunBrianRun , and what a role model you are for your sons and grandson. It must have been great to share this with them.
I look forward to next year’s achievements. What a shame that none of the masters athletics is shown on TV or given any prominence. We should be celebrating achievements by all ages.
I couldn’t agree with you more Dexy. It really is such a shame, but there is a general malaise set in over athletics in general in this country from the top down and bottom up and we can add in commercial interests too.
Certainly I’d love to see more on TV. I’m in awe of some of these performances I see at masters events. I’ll never forget watching the 90+ 200 metres final at the World Champs. Hairs standing up in the back of my neck in awe!
I have several races booked already, some of which involve meet ups, which are the best! My main goal though is to stay fit and healthy and try to avoid injury. As long as I can do parkrun , I will be happy.
I will probably visit my daughter on New Year's Day but I am not staying up all night and getting drunk, no way, I hope to go a run on the afternoon of New Year's Eve, it will be a 8K.
Wow, what an awesome year! And what a a fabulous way to end it, supported by family. It's going to be tough to top that in 2025, but I have no doubt you'll do so.Wishing you another incredible year.
Lovely, thank you Mudita11 I hope you are well despite your ongoing knee and acl injuries. It was encouraging to read a few days back that your knee is on the mend. Let’s hope you’re back to a gentle jog at some point during 2025.
Thanks Brian. Yes I hope so too. Looks like it might be a long road to recovery but I will remain optimistic. Love reading about your races! What is next for you?
I’m not sure tbh. I’m looking after my mum till the 6th so nothing till after that. I’ve been looking at the various race options for January this evening. I’m now also seriously considering the British Masters Indoor Championships in the third week of February. I have got to be in with a chance of a medal I reckon.
That is absolutely brilliant Brian, what a great finale to a triumphant year. I am not sure if it is you or your boys who look the most proud of each other! 😃👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Wow! I’ve just woken up and everything hurts but reading these comments makes the aches go away.
What a lovely way to wake up.
Thank you so much everyone for your kind words. I’m still buzzing of course and grinning like a Cheshire cat.
I still have much more to offer and I’m never too far away from here to offer words of advice, support or encouragement if needed.
I’ve been reflecting and researching on the value of sprint training and running for older folk, and especially those who already do run, and I’m pretty convinced that no matter how “fast” you go, there is a lot to be gained from incorporating some of the resistance training and short bursts of max velocity training, into a weekly regime of exercise. You can do most of it at home too so no need to go to a gym even!
I’m happy to chat about this if you think it’s of value.
Take care and again, thank you VRBs you are all lovely. ☺️
This sort of thing, in my opinion, is most definitely of great value. I am planning on adding sprint and strength training to my weekly routine next year. I became very aware during and after my recent marathon that I'm simply not strong or efficient enough yet to keep going for the full 26.2 miles without needing to stop, take walk breaks.
I think that’s a great idea RunBrianRun ….ref your last paragraph above. I think that I would definitely benefit aswell as many others perhaps from your advice and how you do your exercise regime at home. I look forward to maybe seeing a specific post from you about sprint training and running for older folk with exercise regime too.I’m sure this would be very encouraging for many of us older runners and even the younger runners.👍😀😀
Huge congratulations Brian! Definitely a photograph to frame; it brought a smile to my face this morning. You have had a wonderful year, to add to your Italian adventure last season. Worth all of the morning after pains! You can celebrate with the odd glass of something elegant now. Just fantastic.
I think that resistance training etc would make a great topic to discuss. If I were to try short bursts at max, I would need really need to watch stride length; I over did it once on a speed challenge, and ended up with Runner’s knee! I don’t make the same mistake these days. Maybe include a health warning for people like me 🙂.
Thanks BC. Much appreciated. Yeah, lots and lots of health warnings for those that love to overdo things and forget they’re not 16 anymore. Gently does it.
Well done! You are totally amazing . I’m 66 and I cannot get past 10k just lately and that’s at a push🤣🤣. Anyway there’s tomorrow if weather permits if not it’s on my treadmill 🏃♀️🏃♀️.
Super photo too. Happy New Year to you and yours.🥳🥳
