JUNE EVENTS? HEAD HERE TO GIVE US THE DETAILS ๐ŸŽฝ๐Ÿงข๐Ÿ‘Ÿ

After the excitement and flurry of the numerous races and the HU10 event in May, what can we expect from June? Itโ€™s summer (for most of us ๐Ÿ™‚) and winter in other parts โ„๏ธ but itโ€™s mid-year and so there should be plenty of choice out there.

If you have entered an event in June and would like a pompom cheer from your VRBs then give us the details here and weโ€™ll add them to our spreadsheet. Weโ€™ll then give you a pompom shoutout on the Friday beforehand.

docs.google.com/spreadsheet...

It doesnโ€™t matter what distance. where the location is, whether itโ€™s a fun run or a mud- splattered Tough Mudder, whether itโ€™s your very first race or your umpteenth, weโ€™d love to hear all about it. Tell us the name, the date of the event and, if possible, give us the link.

Iโ€™ll kick us off as I have two races in June, both in the evening, so Iโ€™m hoping for cool days ๐Ÿ˜Ž Cirencester Park Summer Sizzler 10K on the 12th and the Chippenham Longest Day on the 19th.

What about you? Have you entered anything or planning to? Letโ€™s get those racing vibes tickled and raring to go.

From your team ย linda9389 , ย Beachcomber66 and me xxx

Hello Irishprincess , UpTheStanley and I are doing the Exbury Gardens 10k in the new Forest on Sunday 23 June again, and are hoping for a cooler day than last year! ๐Ÿฅต

We will also be seeing Mudita11 there, I believe .

The details are on runningmania.co.uk/

I remember this one from before Dexy but it doesn't seem as if a whole year has passed!

It does sound a lovely event though and hopefully the trees might give you some shade ๐Ÿ˜Ž

Dexy5 profile image

Fortunately it starts at 9.00 so the hedges give some shade in the lanes on the way to the coast, but after that it is all exposed. But it canโ€™t be hotter than last year - can it? ๐Ÿ˜‚

Two things coming up for me.

First on 4 June there is the Rothley 10K rothley10k.com/ where race costs are underwritten by a local financial services company and all proceeds go to LOROS which is a hospice working in the Leicestershire area.

Then on 16 June I have the Sandringham HM runsandringham.co.uk/ running around the King's estate. The course is mostly trails and running on mown fields so can be rather more challenging than a race on roads.

Irishprincess profile image
IrishprincessAdministratorHalf Marathon in reply to 00marks

Re. Rothley, now thatโ€™s a great reason to run a race. I hope they raise a lot of money.

Did you do Sandringham last year? It rings a bell. Sounds gorgeous. I ran around Badminton last week and it was mostly grass and I find it a harder surface to run on than most others.

00marks profile image
00marksMarathon in reply to Irishprincess

Yes, I've run the Sandringham HM for the past 2 years. Last year it was really hot (for the UK) and the marshals had super-soakers that were used on the runners.

Iโ€™โ€™m staying local with a 10k trail run on the 23rd June. There is bling so I am in!! I certainly mentioned it to TailChaser but canโ€™t remember if she added it to her programme or not.

Hello IP! Itโ€™s the Two Castles Run for Katnap and I on 9th June. Itโ€™s my 4th time ๐Ÿ˜ฑ and always hoping to go sub 60 mins but itโ€™s a bit hilly, going from Warwick to Kenilworth Castles. Thats the trouble with castles, they always insist on building them on hills, its very inconsiderate ๐Ÿ˜…. twocastlesrun.org.uk

We are also aiming to do a special Solstice Sunrise Run at Barbury Castle at 3.30am on 21st June. This is a 6 mile run. I have a training course that doesnโ€™t finish until 5pm on the 20th, so it may be a bit of a challenge, but Iโ€™m certainly not going back to work after the run! facebook.com/events/s/solst...

BTW, there is something not quite right with the permissions of your spreadsheet on google docs. In the past we've been able to click on the link and see who is running that month. This month the spreadsheet is private. Is that accident or design?

Cambridge Race For Life. Third time for me, the first time I did the 10K, last year I did 5K and enjoyed it more. It goes all round the centre of Cambridge, and through the grounds of King's College which is always special.

I've just found out the 10K runs are chip timed, I might see if I can swap...a proper time is always an incentive!

I remember you doing this before. Let me know what distance you go with and I can update on the s/sheet.

I am doing Leeds 10k on 23rd June runforall.com/events/10k/le...

I am excited and a bit nervous. I attempted a 10k over 10 years ago but didn't finish due to injury. Some time after that I stopped running altogether until just over a year ago. But I'm in a pretty good position now - haven't had any injuries since I returned to running and have been running consistently. So I will be delighted when I complete my first 10k.

Ooh how exciting! Your first 10K and at such a fab sounding event too ๐Ÿค—

Good luck with your training and watch out for the pompom call the Friday beforehand ๐Ÿ€

It seems a long time since I did a race, so I've been hunting for something to coincide with the Sunday 10k on my plan at the end of June. Found a small local event (which isn't quite as local as I thought, but it's easy to get to) - the Thame 10k on Sunday 30th June thamerunners.club/cpm-thame...

Have fun with your events IP ๐Ÿฅฐ

Hello Irishprincess,

I have decided to enter the Duffield 5 again, (The 5 stands for miles, course about 8.5km)

duffieldcarnival.co.uk/even...

After many years the ogarnisers have changed the route to avoid most of the Hazelwood Road to apparently include more footpaths. So far I haven't seen a map of the new route so I am most intrigued as to where we will run. Although I so enjoy being off road, for this event I have really enjoyed the Hazelwood Road where folk are out in their front gardens supporting and supplying drinks and lads squirt the runners with super soakers. I remember running down the hill shouting '"Get my face! Get my face!" Seems amazing at over 61 I'm able to have such fun. Generally nowhere near the support for the trails part of the run.

I was in two minds as to whether to enter wondering whether my running could be 'back to normal' after my half marathon. Somehow if you live locally and run you surely must enter. I'm really looking forward to it now, so many of my neighbours take part or are supporting or organising. As the route has changed, comparing my time to last year will not be such a self imposed pressure. More off road will I'm sure mean slower for me. Sorry for long reply.

Irishprincess profile image
IrishprincessAdministratorHalf Marathon in reply to over61andstilltrying

๐Ÿคฃ thatโ€™s funny about you asking the lads to get your face ๐Ÿคฃ

I see this is an evening run. I have two of those too in June ๐Ÿ˜Ž

A new route will be fun and keep all the runners on their toes. How is your knee after your HM?

over61andstilltrying profile image
over61andstilltryingHalf Marathon in reply to Irishprincess

Of course I would like to say it is fine, but it continues to tell me that it isn't. Happily the mainly two different types of pain don't last long. Less than a minute at a time. Ran 9.88km this morning, had intended about 8km, but I encountered cows and a temporarily closed route (bridge missing over river) so run became longer. So pleased that my body seems to be alive and well post half marathon. With your various events plan it sounds like you are also continuing to feel good, hip hip hooray ๐Ÿ˜Š๐Ÿƒโ€โ™€๏ธ

Irishprincess profile image

Hopefully you can manage it going forward ๐Ÿคž

And pain for less than a minute is surely good news ๐Ÿ™‚

over61andstilltrying profile image
over61andstilltryingHalf Marathon in reply to Irishprincess

Spoke too soon. 9.88km as I said before breakfast and then lots of gardening and clearly my knee is unhappy. As you say I will endeavour to manage, while hopefully running and as always listening to my body ๐Ÿ˜Š๐Ÿƒ๐Ÿปโ€โ™€๏ธ

Hi

very late to the party here, haven't here got round to writing up my Welsh 3Peak challenge or the HU Spring 10km, as lots going on which isn't giving me any time to myself really. However, I am determined to still do the races/events I have already entered, so..to my horror, I realised my next race is this sunday 9th June (thought it was 16th) , Woodhall Spa 10km. Always far too hot! I did this event last year and didn't like it for that reason, but went and entered again anyway because most of our running club do it and then we have a big picnic afterwards, so thats the best bit!
