Well, for everyone and everything, apart from the weather, Summer is upon us and there are lots of races around. Hopefully there are none of these characters in your neck of the woods!
We like to support our runners with a shout out on race days, so if you have entered an event in July, and you would like to feel the strength of the HU hord behind you on the day, please enter the details in a response to this e.mail and we will add them to the July spreadsheet which you can see here;
Hi RunWillie. It is a great pleasure to add your name to the list! We will be right with you every step of the way, willing you on and celebrating the outcome. You are already a 🌟
I also have the British Masters Championships in Derby on 27th and 28th July. I’ll be entering the 100m in a bid to retain my title and also the 200m this year.
Hello BC 👋 Just the one race in July - the Compton Verney 10k on the 14th. I usually do the HM but I’ve done it 3 times and my Berlin plan only needs a 10k, so I’m being lazy! I think Katnap is doing it as well 🤔
Hi there, not been on the forum for a few weeks, partner very poorly so not getting out as much as I like, but, I am entered for the Heckington 10 miler on Sat 27th July, so Im going to give it a go!
Hi Hedgehogs123. Sorry to hear that your partner has been so unwell; I hope that they recover quickly.
A 10 mile road race in Lincolnshire sounds as though it shouldn’t be over “blessed” with really steep hills, but if your mileage has taken a dip you will want to take care anyway. Hope that you enjoy the day and that things are looking and feeling much better by race day. You are now on the spreadsheet.🙂
The views were lovely, except the old stately pile shrouded in plastic. Again !!! A bit like how I felt 🥵. It was boiling 🫠. I honestly wanted to peel off my capris and vest I was so flamin ‘ot! 🔥. This was between 7.30 and 8.30 pm
Mind you the racing snakes were not so afflicted as they don’t hang around as long as us mere mortals 🌪. They were flying past us on the return leg in very short order. Amazing 😀🔥
The start of the race is an uphill drag but lots of support from the locals was much appreciated 🙂. It was to prove invaluable later on 🥵.
The steep hill with, chicane onto the next even steeper hill, was knackering so I walked it. I felt ok so gave it some welly back down. I walked much more of the race than I’ve done in previous years but never mind ☺️
My husband said there were plenty of folks struggling at the finish with fainting etc. i didn’t hear of anything serious though. I was fine at the end apart from being parched as there was only one water stop at 5k. I took a small bottle but it wasn’t nearly enough. My gummy sweets did nothing but make me feel more thirsty Yak!
My husband confirmed there was cake! Big drink of water and we headed to the cake table and the medal presentations. Some amazingly fast times. Not for me though, but hey there’s next year 😀🏃♀️
I got a “I Beat The HILL” commemorative technical tee shirt. Lime green this year. An improvement on the dull grey job last time
Cake wise it was an amazing choc fest gateau with smarties all over it 🍰😋
On going to bed I got terrible cramp in my leg. Aaaaaagh 😫. A hop about the bedroom and landing sorted it and I slept like a log 🙂
Finish time 01:07:43. I managed 58 minutes in 2022 so was a bit disappointed. I put a Compeed plaster over my twanging Achilles to prevent rub but it swelled up quite a bit afterwards. It feels better now though 🙂
I’m going on holiday shortly so hopefully some scenic running, and swimming, will be on the cards. A meal out and footy this weekend ⚽️
That sounds like hard work missw. The heat and hills make a big difference. My V02 max hit 45 a week ago, but since the weather warmed up plus returning to my hill run post holiday and plus pushing up pace on long runs, it has gone backwards! I think hot weather should mean steady shorter runs for me. Trouble is all that resolve disappears once the run starts!! My runs on holiday were great; hope you have a fabulous break 🙂.
