We're hurtling towards spring (enough of winter already)! Races await!
Do you have anything planned? Have you entered any events in February? If so, then please do give us the details. Just tell us the name of the event, the date ... oh, and a link to the organiserβs website too please.
Weβll add you to our Feb spreadsheet docs.google.com/spreadsheet... and give you a special mention in our pompom post the Friday before your race; that way all your lovely VRBs can leave a message of support and cheer you all the way from start to finish line π₯³π₯³π₯³ We'll all be there for you!
Itβs a bit echoey in here againβ¦ do I have to be the first???! Ok thenβ¦ apart from the last Winter Series, Β Katnap and I are doing the Bath Two Tunnels Hilly Half Marathon on 25th February. Apparently itβs not hilly itβs just to differentiate it from the out and back other half marathon, I hope thatβs right! π€·π»ββοΈ I believe someone else on here may be joining us for some of it but Iβll leave it to her to reply π (clue: rhymes with βbleepyβ)
My first event for this year is the Rauceby Ripper, its a bit of a toughie, 9 miles cross county and particulary if the weather isn't good. Last year running up steep ploughed fields was not easy at all, but a good challenge. Not quite back to full fitness but will be doing it with some running pals so it will be fine. The event is Sat 3rd Feb.
Hello linda9389 hope you're all well and looking forward to the weekend. After having run the "San Silvestre Vallecana" 10k popular race in Madrid on New Year's eve with just under 40,000 runners I fancied doing another mass participation event so have signed up for the Cancer Research UK London Winter 10k Run on Sunday 25th February. (They had around 15,000 runners last year)
It ticks all the boxes. It sounds like fun with lots of entertainment. Is a manageable distance 10k as opposed to a half marathon or marathon. You get to run through the streets of central London seeing famous monuments and landmarks along the way. And lastly it's for a very good cause. It'll be my first time doing it so am really excited!
How exciting! It's such a popular event. The one year I entered it was cancelled because if high winds. Hopefully you have better luck and a fabulous time π
Ahh yes, thanks to the ever helpful TailChaser , it reminded me that I too have signed up for the Two Tunnels in Bath on February 25th. Except just the 10k - no hilly HM for me! No need to add the link as I believe the Relish link on TCβs post covers all the distances.
Hi linda9389 and running friends. As you might remember, Iβm not back to running fully yet but I do what I can!
Hopefully the weather will warm up soon! Iβm signed up for the London Winter Run at the end of February πββοΈ I may stay up in London for the weekend, otherwise Iβll have to rely on the railways π€
Although I donβt remember doing it, Iβm also signed up for the Chichester 10K next weekend! π³ I think some friends from my running club are going too, so Iβll have some company at least π
Iβll do what I can anyway, and if I finish last then Iβm absolutely fine with that!
Good luck David_G with both runs. I hope you enjoy them. When you did the London Winter run last year do you remember how far in advance they confirmed your wave start time?
It's usually when the race bibs are issued. They may saynon the website when that is, but its often between one and two weeks ahead of the race. If you need to know for travel arrangements etc. You could always try calling or emailing the race organisers - they are often surprisingly accessible
The participants guide says race packs should arrive a week before if you're in the UK ... but that doesn't help if you're abroad! As David says, an email would fix that issue, but I'd still try msging them and see if you can find out sooner if you need to know. Alternatively, you may be able to roughly work it out from last years results. Find people coming in in the sort of time you expect to run, then see how much longer their gun time is than their chip time - that shows you how long after the race start they took off. Edit: sadly this doesnt work as the results only show chip time, not gun time!
Thanks Jogger22 I think it came a couple of weeks in advance of the event date. I seem to remember an email from them with my start number and wave, and that you could pick up a race number on the day if needed. Good luck to you too, if youβre doing it! πββοΈπ
Hi linda9389 I entered this race a while back for 4th Feb but was unsure whether to run or sell on my place! It's a Hampshire Road Race League so always popular!
Ok , here we go Lindaβ¦although these are both very much dependent on my progress with running!
The first is the RunReigate Trail run at Gatton Park in Reigate on the 18th February. Much as I would like to be ready for the 10k, itβs an undulating course, so my plan is to stick to the 5k and just enjoy the setting which looks beautiful.π
Then, if my preparation goes okay, I am hoping for a return to 10k with the London Winter Run, a week later on the 25th. I entered this so long ago, before my injury and it is an event I have long wanted to do but always seems to elude me! I reckon I can take this slow and steady and enjoy the excitement of running the streets of London with thousands of other folk for some beautiful looking bling!πββοΈππΎββοΈπββοΈππΎββοΈ My husband and son are also entered, so fingers crossed we are all on the start line together!
Hi Linda - can you change my Reigate trail from 5K to 10k? I seem to be a little ahead of my planβ¦and it is a beautiful looking course! It has a few βinclinesβ and undulations but plenty of downhill too so I reckon I will be okay.π€π¬
Good luck Sandraj39 with both runs. I hope your injury gets completely better before then. It's wonderful that you can run with your family. I'm looking forward to the London Winter Run too! I really enjoyed the mass participation 10k race I did in Madrid on New Year's eve which is one of the main reasons why I signed up to the London one. I hope it is as buzzing as Madrid! π
Hi linda9389 I'm unable to access the google docs spreadsheet for February races and have requested access but am still unable to open it. Please could you assist?
Hi Linda. Another entry here for the London Winter Run on the 25th. I did it last year and loved it despite having the remains of a chest infection! Itβs a great atmosphere π
I have booked a half marathon just in the next month too but going to try to sell that place as I have been too winter cold full to train π± and it's done nothing but rain π€― So I'll stick to my 10k runs at present!!
No it's only a half marathon. At least it's for charity so my entry is a donation and it looks like you can still enter so I'm not holding a place away from anyone.
