Hi Irishprincess , can I have a Metric Marathon badge please?
I am running my second half marathon next weekend in Ballina Co. Sligo and thought that I was falling a bit behind in training.
So I got up out of bed on Saturday morning (its Sunday now I suppose) and decided to go straight out for run, the only intention was to keep the heartrate in zone 3 green and enjoy the run, which I managed to do for 82% of the run.
I slowed to a jog/walk when it went up to next zone, which became increasingly frequent towards the end, even when going down steep hills.
I originally thought that I would do 10k but was thinking 25 or 30 at 7k.
Time or place was not an issue so didn't see the point in a 25 when a 30 was relatively so close and either one would be my longest distance. When I got to 25k which was near home, I worked out a route that would add another 5k to the journey and finished completing with 30k thus passing half the metric marathon distance .
😀.
Picture is of a lamb that ran over to me to cheer me on, she got back safely afterwards to her mother afterwards.
Well, the 50k beat me when my ankle felt like it was about to shatter… came on suddenly and wouldn’t walk off… but I did go 22 miles and a fair few yards, so I have now completed a run longer than the metric marathon, so please can I claim that one? Ultra badge will have to wait a few months!
Aww thank you and I said I would only run a 10K when I first started lol 😂now I do half marathon and next year my first full marathon regular reps tempo fell trail I’ve definitely got the bug 😉👍🏻
I ran my first half marathon distance yesterday..a 21.11km. Still finding it unbelievable! It was supposed to be 18k run and found there was still a bit in tank so kept running for another 3k Can I please get the HM badge.
Hello IP. I’m very pleased to report that I completed a Metric Marathon this morning as part of my marathon training. It was hotter than the sun’s armpit, it wasn’t fast and it certainly wasn’t pretty but I did it 🥵. Could I have a lovely, shiny badge please (the thought of it really helped keep me going btw)?
Thank you Frenc, I was hoping to get this one this year but it’s much better when it’s part of something to aim for 👍 The sun’s armpit seems to have got even hotter since I stopped. It’ll be so nice when it cools down again 🥵
Hello IP! I completed 30K or 18 and a bit miles in training today. Please may I have a lovely shiny metric marathon badge? Perhaps I’ll get to the whole marathon, perhaps I’ll do the metric. I’m mulling it over. 😀🥵
To be honest, I found it a struggle this week. I had to adjust training and ended up with two v long (for me) distances in consecutive weekends. There wasn’t one single step today that I didn’t want to give up. However, carried on.
Love C25K. Could never ever have done it without you all. ☺️
It’s seems to be a bit of a rarity around these parts but can I request a “ten mile” badge? New milestone for me this morning and I’m buzzing! Hoping to trade it in for the HM badge soon.
Wow! Huge congratulations!!! Isn't it an awesome achievement? Believe it! And feel very, very proud. Here's your hard earned badge. We'd love to read a race report if you fancy posting one 😊
Hello IP. I ran 10 miles this morning. Wasn’t planning to - it just happened and I really quite enjoyed it. My legs are now a bit tired but should recover in time for the New Forest 10k next Sunday 🤞🏼 🤞🏼. Could I have a new badge please? Thank you 😊 x
Massive congratulations, I've given you your shiny new badge (IP is away right now or she'd have been straight on to it). 10 miles is a huge achievement. 10k on Sunday will fly by now 😍
I went out early doors this morning for what was intended to be a deliberately slow 60 minute or 10k run, and somehow it turned into my first ten-miler.
I took the BlueFin route from 5k to 10k. Since completing that back in August I've been running anywhere between 5k and 13k, with the latter being my first 8-miler last Thursday.
I've done a couple of shorter, pacier runs since then and just fancied reverting to somewhere around 60m/10k or a bit longer if I had it in the tank to hit 8-miles again.
I was feeling OK by the time the 8-mile mark rolled around and wondered whether I might be able to keep the run going for 9 miles. 9 miles came along and I thought to myself, "I can probably manage another ten minutes of this" and 'somehow' I did.
A post by Lookslikejames earlier today prompted me to reply after at least a year since I last wrote anything here.
Thought it might worth nipping on this thread with a quick and long overdue progress update.
Short version: I've run several Half marathons and a couple of Metric marathons since the 10-miler.
Currently training to cover marathon distance just for the fun of it and next weekend is the final set of long runs before the taper. (One day I might actually get around to running in an organised event, or even a group.)
Running highlights so far include a 90 minute maiden jaunt around Sefton Park and a 30k run the wekeend before last from Exeter to Teignmouth along the River Exe, Exeter's canals, and the South West Coastal Path.
I don't suppose there's a 30k badge, so I'll settle for a Metric Marathon one until such time as I make through a marathon length run. 😉
Wow! You have been busy. Well done . Sounds like it won't be long before you need that badge so let me dig out a Metric Marathon badge for you right away! Good luck with the marathon 😊
Hope to report back again towards the end of the next month.
In the meantime, there is much work to be done; not least because Sunday's 22.5k long run (yesterday) on local streets was more arduous than running 30k on totally unfamiliar towpaths, trails, and roads along the south-west coastline the Sunday before.
Clearly I'm still trying to figure out this running lark.
Hi, a bit late posting here ... I did the GNR Sunday before last (it hasn't taken me this long to recover ... I'm just forgetful!) ... I was undercooked in terms of prep so doing it in 2h 50m on a hot day with a crowded course was pleasing enough for the first HM. May I have a HM badge please?
Can I request my HM badge please? I am absolutely thrilled to have covered the full distance this morning. It’s three weeks until Bath and it is so good to go into it knowing I can make it to the end running all the way.
Am treating myself to coffee and a lunch…and a super long bath!!!
Thanks for the new badge!! Was so pleased to see the distance pop up. Didn’t have anything left in the tank but there didn’t need to be. Still can’t quite believe it!
Can I please have my Marathon badge please I have finished my first ever Marathon on the 2nd October Chester Marathon in a time of 4:04:15 I’m well and truly proud of myself
Congratulations!!! I clapped everyone out of the racecourse, hope you heard me 😀. You have every right to feel proud, that's a fabulous first marathon 👏👏👏
I’ve just run the Bath Half 🥳. Such a wonderful atmosphere with so many cheering us on around my home city. Feeling good… been struggling with my pacemaker settings and an old style cardiac pacemaker…( My 9th), but I made it yesterday in just over 3 hours and raised £1000 for a local charity so v pleased. Would love a badge pls. 🥳
Yes! I’d geared up for rain so wished I’d brought sunglasses and a hat. I got a bit overheated! The crowd were brilliant. Hi fived a storm trooper and a lot of kids on the way round. Lots of funny signs. Picked up some jelly babies en route too! Had lovely chats with people in various queues too. If it weren’t for that horrible hill just before the finish I’d be immediately signing up for next year!
Hi, I completed my first full marathon run today in Clonakilty Cork. Unfortunately the full marathon was called off due to severe flooding and we were moved to the half. I did the half and then did another afterwards as I didn't want to travel all that distance for just a half. Thanks very much.
Ahh, how disappointing for you. But amazing that you pushed on to achieve the marathon even so. Huge congratulations. Here's your very well dwserved badge 👏
Hello Irishprincess, this morning, 27th November in memory of Tim, I ran Tim's Run, a half marathon in a time of 2:57:15, that was my first Half Marathon, so I hope it won't be long before I see the words Half Marathon next to my username.
Thanks Irishprincess, when I got home I celebrated my first Half Marathon by drinking a large glass of Pineapple Sqush and a chocolate ice cream swirl, yummy, I also did a little stretching as well, my legs were a little sore but not all that bad as at 2pm as usual I took Holly the dog a walk.
I did keep moving IP, my legs aren't feeling too sore now, I took Holly the dog a walk at 2 pm so that's fine as my legs felt OK, but I wouldn't want to run again until Wednesday, that will be a 5K.I did a little rehearsal of the first and last 5K of my planned half marathon last Sunday and on Wednesday so that I would end the run just a 3 minutes walk away from where I live, that worked very well as at 21.11 kilometers I completed the run only a 3 minutes walk from my home.
Thank you very much Linda9389, I was very pleased in getting it completed in under 3 hours although all my split times and the full distance were a little more than when I ran that almost half marathon 3 weeks ago.
Thanks BishyBarnabee, yes I did have a smile on my face, especially the last 5K which I found a little hard, I am feeling very well today and managed a 7K walk in the morning.
Hi IP! I did the Munich Half Marathon in October but forgot to ask for my shiny badge - probably still exhausted from my efforts … I remembered just now, in the middle of reading all the wonderful posts for Tim; incredible how he supported and accompanied so many people in their various running adventures with his kind, wise words.
Thanks, Princess! Quite a feeling running into the “Olympiastadion” to the finishing line! Huffing, puffing and wheezing around Munich is a very ‘different’ sort of sightseeing tour, too!
I'm preparing for the HU virtual HM in May. I normally do a long run on Friday and this evening completed 16.1km (10 miles) in 2hr 3min 15secs. Can I get my 10 mile badge please?😁 I'm feeling reasonably confident that I'll be able to complete the HM distance now but it's getting hotter here so that will be a challenge.
hi IP, please may I have my HM badge. I completed it this afternoon supported by the amazing TailChaser (who can vouch for me). Full report to be posted soon as I’ve recovered 🤣🍰🍪☕️🍺
Hi IP. I ran half marathon distance today in 2 hours 53 minutes. Only planned to run 10 miles but got a bit carried away when I saw that the HM was within reaching distance 🤣. Could I have the HM badge next to my name please? Thanks x
Hello 👋 I'm hoping I can claim a metric marathon badge please after my 18 mile run today!? I had a reminder from Linda last time I did 16.1 and just missed it so here I am. 😊
Wowsers! Metric marathon and some! That's a fabulous achievement, massive congratulations. That badge looks amazing ... but you know what we have waiting for you now .... 👏👏👏
I’ve need out of here for a while but have earned all the badges. I completed my first 50k ultra in March (the Green Boy) and did my 4th Marathon in July. Also do you have any triathlon badges? I done a few of those too? Thank you.
Wow! You have been busy! Big congratulations to you and well done for some fantastic achievements 💪
Unfortunately we can allocate only one badge for each forum so I’ve given you an ultramarathon badge. We don’t have any triathlon badges but I will take this up with the HU support people to see if we can get some for the future.
Hi Irishprincess, I hope you and all here are in good helath and running well. I just realised in my HM training I ran my first 10 miler since starting this running journey back in August 22. My HM's approaching too quickly, 3/3 at Newport. Especially as I am currently taking penicillin and nasal sprays for mild headaches possibly caused by sinus problems or infection. However I'm getting there 😁
Wow, congratulations OMR! Here's a lovely shiny new badge. 10 miles is such an amazing milestone run, and it really is wellon the way to the half marathon too. I do hope the penicillin sorts the headaches for you and you get to really enjoy Newport HM. Don't forget to get your name added to the March events post when it's up and we can bring out our best HU posse to support you all the way to the finish line!
Hi Irishprincess, I’ve been training for the Bristol HM since February and have been gradually building up my time/distance. Today I managed my first HM 😁in 3 hours 3 minutes, had to walk a short section towards the end as I think my blood sugar dropped and I felt sick. Managed to run the final section, gutted that if I’d been able to keep going I would have been inside 3 hours. That will now be my next target! My second toe on my right foot felt a bit sore as I took my trainers off and it looked around the edge of the nail as if there was a bruise. I removed the nail varnish to find a black nail. Ended up spending this evening in A&E having 2 holes drilled in the nail. Still very black and sore. Hope it soo heals as I’ll be so disappointed if I can keep training for Bristol HM. Any advice from would be gratefully received xx
Well done and congratulations! It’s such a fabulous achievement, be proud!
Sorry about your toe though. That sounds painful 😫
Are you still hoping to do Bristol? I did that one a few years ago and it’s a brilliant event, the atmosphere and crowd support is second to none.
Are you wearing big enough shoes? A half size or full size bigger than your everyday shoes? This gives your toes room especially when you run downhill.
I can’t give you any specific advice but I do hope you heal quickly you’ll probably know yourself when to start running again. Did you ask at the hospital?
You could ask the question in a post on our Fun Beyond 10K & Race Support community and introduce yourself. We love welcoming new members and I’m pretty sure someone will have gone through the toe issue and can guide you better!
As for you feeling sick, did you take any fuel/water with you? If you didn’t then that’s perhaps why you didn’t feel too well. Our bodies need fuel after about an hour of exercise and it’s good to practice this during training.
There’s lots of advice about running a HM on our pages and, while I appreciate that you’ve just completed the distance, it’s always worthwhile to be extra prepared for the next time!
Thank you so much IP for all your kind words and helpful advice. I will definitely check out the site for tips on keeping energy and hydration levels up during longer runs. Although I’ve never posted and very rarely comment/reply I gain so much from reading posts and replies. I also will be looking out for advice and not self sabotaging during a run, how to better manage the doubt and to have more resilience and self belief.
Congratulations GN. You should easily break the 3 hour barrier with what you learned about fuelling and hydration yesterday. What a great target for Bristol.Sorry to hear about the toe though - ouch!
I often get black toe nails, but have never had them attended to. The first night they are so sore that even the touch of sheets is painful. Over the next two or three days the soreness goes away completely. After about 6 months the old nail comes away (with no discomfort) and there is a thin, new one underneath. They have never stopped me running.
One obvious cause is hitting the end of your shoe if they are too small, or if you have a lot of steep downhill. For me, I think it's that I clench my toes as I get tired and they are banging on the sole of my shoe. I do try to relax my feet ... but...
I hope yours heals fast and has no impact on your running. If you post thiis as a standalone post and question, you may get more replies and useful info.
Wushing you luck, and congratulations again on your half marathon 😊
I'm sorry, I've really confused you, and all because I initially thought I was replying to you in the Bridge to 10k forum. Over there you can apply for your 10k badge.
Here we have badges waiting for you as you go beyond the 10k - badges for the next milestones of 10 miles, HM, etc.
Once again, congratulations on your first 10k, enjoy the journey to even longer distances and so sorry for being so confusing 🙈
Hi there. Well done and congratulations! Your first 10K is very special ❤️
I see that MissUnderstanding has pointed you to where you get your new badge. But there are lots more shiny badges waiting for you if that’s your thing.
