OK racing demons, it’s time to tell us about any races you have coming up in August.
It doesn’t matter what distance or what country you are in, we’d love to hear from you. Fun runs (aren’t they all? 🤗), once-in-a-lifetime runs, a regular race for you, a new route, they’re all welcome here. Perhaps you’ve never entered a race before and you have your first one in August or, then again, perhaps you’re a more experienced racer and it’s yet another date in your calendar!
Your VRBS are getting ready to fluff up the pompoms to wave loads of virtual support for you on race day.
Give us the name and date of the event and a link to the website if possible. We’ll then add you onto our spreadsheet in readiness for a pompom cheer the Friday beforehand. Such fun 🥳
I’ll be running my favourite race, the Severn Bridge 10k, on August 27th, for the 5th year straight, including 2020 when it was held as a time trial. The weather can be interesting; full on gale/rain or 28 degrees with no shade. Whatever, I’m ready for it, and also coming along to sample it for the first time are Dexy5 and UpTheStanley 😀
It’s fun (let’s ignore the HIDEOUS incline at the end!) 😅
Yes , as cheekychipmunks says, we will be doing the Severn Bridge, but first time for us. We’ve done the parkrun with cheeky but the 10k takes us to the other side I think. Another advantage of doing this one is we won’t be staying at home suffering the boom boom of the annual festival on Southsea Common for 3 days!
More incline training required in July methinks. ⛰️ 🏃♀️🏃♂️🏃♀️
We weren’t but now we are! Katnap and I are doing the Solihull HM on 13th August with a Fordy Runs meet-up afterwards. Never done this one before, don’t know much about it but it’ll make a change!
As well as my 10k London vitality virtual run in September, yesterday I also entered the Jon ward virtual 5k in August. Jon Ward was a great runner but sadly died in 2020. I think he was only in his 40s. So this race is in memory of him. He was originally a member of the Hereford Couriers running club. Which is the club that organises this every year. This is the second time I ran this race which was 2021. I missed it last year for some reason. All the proceeds raised for will go towards the Jon Ward charity.

The race week is 12th - 20th August. So it will be of those days I shall run.😂😂
Hi, Ive got the 10Km at Revesby Estate on Sunday 6th Aug. Its through a beautiful country park full of deer, and is held on the day as their country show, so Im looking forward to this one!
As well as my race on Sun 6th (already logged) I forgot to also mention I have another 10km race in Aug, how could I forget this one, because it ends with masses of homemade cake, what's not to like!!! 🍰🍥🥮 I did it last year as it was my very first 10km, and thats where my profile pic is from, so I'm doing it again this year. Its on Friday 11th Aug.
Hi Irishprincess and all VRBs. I've been a quite a bit busy with work and home commitments and haven't really visited the forum of late I'm afraid.
I have 2 runs in August. The first is on the 5th which is a half marathon called the "Breffni 3 Province Challenge" breffni3provincechallenge.com/ . The second is on the 27th and is a full marathon called "Abbott Longford Marathon" longfordmarathon.com/ .
The hm is being used as part of my training plan for the marathon itself, and will be my 8th hm event so far this year. The marathon will be my second this year and the second ever. Thankfully all the training is going well and I am in a much better place than I was in for the Belfast one.
1st official 10k on Sunday! I have done 2x 10k in training so I’m pretty confident I can do the distance but still Yikes!!. Any pre race tips greatly received. Thanks
Oh how exciting! Your first race is always a blast, although I remember feeling a mixture of excitement and nerves for my first one. That’s perfectly normal and those flurry butterflies will act as adrenaline so it’s all good 🦋
Which one is it and then I can add you to the spreadsheet in readiness for a pompom cheer on Friday?
Some tips:
- Don’t wear anything new or try anything new on race day.
- No curries or anything different to eat the night before 🙈
- Keep well hydrated all week but don’t drink too much on the morning of the race.
- Don’t go off too fast. It’s tempting as lots of others do but try and keep to your own pace.
- Relax and enjoy it all and smile for the cameras.
- Savour the feeling when you cross the finish line and then come here and tell us all about it!
Oh wow I did my first one last Aug and was so nervous . Ive now done quite a few and still get nervous,!! I'm not as experienced as some on here but if I can offer 3 little bits of advice, 1- don't get over excited and go off to quick, 2- hydrate well days before the event, and 3 -don't over dress! I always put too many layers on and regret it as soon as we get into mile 2. Most of all, enjoy it!!!😀👍
Hi there. I am another Severn Bidge 10ker. This is the only live race I have planned for for this year . It was so lovely last year I couldn't resist doing it again. Training has not been going to plan due to a very hectic few weeks so expecting a slower time than last year-but I see that as a way of prolonging the enjoyment-( not looking forward to that nasty slope at the end either cheekychipmunks !!!
Oh wonderful news Week7 ! 👏👏👏 It’s a great race isn’t it?
I started off with all good intentions to train properly for all my races this year, and have done next to nothing except literally pootle around! I’m expecting a less than impressive time for me too, but as long as get my grubby mitts on that bling, I don’t care! 😅
19th Aug I will be back on my bike at the Cotswold Classic Sportive. I’m riding the 59k route which includes a couple of sneaky Cotswold climbs. Dare not do the longer distances as I’m leading a 50 mile ride the following day!!
All good preparation for when I ride a century (100 miles in a day) on the 27th Aug. (I don’t have a link for that as it is a club event I’m organising for the 10th Sept. The ride on the 27th is when my fellow organiser and I have to recce the route!!!). It has been 4 years since I rode a 100 miles in a day so I’m a bit nervous about it, 4 years older is bound to have an effect, n’est pas?
Is it that time already again Shake? I remember you doing this last year.
My bottom feels sore just thinking about your 59K and then the 50 miles the next day 😫
And then the 100 miles!!! You’re made of strong stuff so of course you’ll do it. Four years older has brought a wealth of experience and nifty tricks 🚴♂️
Hi IPHere is a late entry to August events, sorry!
I'm doing the Blackpool Lights 7.5k night run on 30th August in support of Brian House children's hospice. There's over 30 of us going in a minibus and with the promise of fish and chips and beer afterwards it should be an interesting evening. It definitely won't be an event for chasing PB's!
