Itβs time to get those pom-poms fluffed up and ready to wave for your VRBs. We have a plethora of runners this weekend and into next week and weβll be in loads of different locations, so get readyβ¦β¦ get setβ¦β¦Β π₯³
βοΈ First up it looks as if we might have a wee get-together at the Two Castles 10K in Warwickshire on Sunday. As the name suggests, itβs a 10K between two beautiful castles, starting at Warwick Castle and ending at Kenilworth Castle. Mead anyone?Β π»
The VRB contingent is made up of Katnap , Sandie1961 , Shake-and-run , and TailChaser
I imagine lots of laughter, food, drink and running talesΒ π
Β βοΈ Also on Sunday, our ever faithful aliboo70 will be taking on the Needles HM on the Isle of Wight, βthe toughest and most scenic HM in the countryβ. I think this might be a regular for you Ali but weβll always be with you as you go round. You know what to do! Bring home the fab blingΒ π
βοΈ Heading now to Liverpool where Cantstopmenow will be running the Port Sunlight 10K, a gorgeous sounding two lap route taking in the Port Sunlight Museum on the Windy Bank village green. Will there be soap in the goodie bag I wonder?
Β βοΈ Moving on to Lincolnshire next (phew! We do some mileage around here!) and heading to the beautiful Woodall Spa where Hedgehogs123 will be running the 10K. Apparently a fast course through scenic countryside and promising cake at the end!Β Cake and bling are definitely good reasons to do itΒ π
βοΈ Keep those pompoms flying. They have no time to be tired!Β Β Weβre in Walsall now and cheering Time_Lord who will run the Aldridge 10K. Looking like a one lap course and part of the Running Festival, weβre sure youβll have a brilliant time TLΒ π
βοΈ The final weekend runner is womblejogger who will be toeing the line at the Swansea HM, a fab looking coastal route and voted in some parts to be the UKβs best HM! It starts in front of the Swansea Arena and through the city centre passing Swansea Castle and heads out towards the mumbles and then back. Looks and sounds amazing WJ, such a great looking route.
Β βοΈ The pompoms can have a little rest after the weekend but we need them again for RunBrianRun when he has two events mid-week. On Tuesday he has the Worthing Open 100mand on Wednesday the next round (100m) of the Sussex Vets League in Eastbourne. We hope that pesky COVID has disappeared for you Brian and that you are fit to go and do your best on these days.
Well!!! Thatβs a busy old time for our epic VRBs. Good luck and Bon Courage to every single one of you. Run with your heart and have fun. We want to read all about it afterwards!
Have we missed anyone? Let us know here.

π½Β If you have an event for the remaining days in June, then head here:
π no but I thought for one awful minute that I had lost the original draft because the photo wouldnβt load properly and Iβd have to start again! Luckily it was still there π
And that's why I always type up and save pompoms and chat posts as a separate document rather than typing stuff in directly. Couldn't possibly cope otherwise!
Well I never, what an impressive array of HU bling collectors we have this weekend. Good luck each and every one of you, and have an amazing time. Race reports and photos please! β€οΈ
Go, go, goooooooo everyone! Enjoy it because you've all earned it. Wishing everyone all the very best and here's to making more running memories ππππ
We are hearing rumours of a hot one at The Two Castles so your suggestion of mead might be a medical requirement to rehydrate afterwards. Might make the bus trip back to Warwick a bit interesting! Thanks for the shout out and good luck to all the HUVRBs who are out there putting one foot in front of the other. Pom poms waving madly here!
Thanks IP and all my VRBs πThis will be 8th time doing this one in memory of my mum π₯°I'm getting slower each year! The forecast might have some rain which would be good -:will report back!
Good luck to all our fabulous runners this coming week xxx
Iβm waving hot pom poms in Sunny Southsea for all you lovely runners this weekend. Keep cool and drink lots of water. Hedgehogs123 , Cantstopmenow , Time_Lord , womblejogger
Special mention also to my pals doing the 2 castles Katnap , TailChaser , Sandie1961 and Shake-and-run . Also to aliboo70 doing the Needles HM on the IoW ( I know how special this one is to you)
Last but not least , hope you are ok for your events RunBrianRun . Just think of them as training!
Oh it has got busy again! Hotting up in more way than one! Letβs hope the hosepipes are out for us this weekend! Have fabulous runs everyone, stay cool and stay safe πππππππ
Thanks for the shout out IP. Iβve been moaning about how cold and cloudy itβs been in Lincolnshire this week, but I think Iβd be happy to have it like that tomorrow π₯΅ Good luck everyone!
Cry βHavoc!β and let slip the dogs of war !!. The trustees of Warwick and Kenilworth will be shaking in their boots! Not content with contending with the rigours of a 10k run, our crazy quartet are off to sack a couple of castles as well. So long as you remember to tank up on mead after the run you should be ok. Have a great run Katnap Sandie1961 Shake-and-run and TailChaser π»
I have every confidence π. If you need to call in an armoured division, Ernie the Tortoise has a nasty bite (ask TC), but he may need help with mobility π
Best wishes for a great run to everyone chasing bling this weekend. Hydration hydration and hydration for those basking in sunshineβ¦.still a bit nippy up hereβ¦good for running though!ππ
tuesday morning update from the sunday half, by god it was hot too hot ... apparently only 5000 runners i'm sure there is usually up to 10000 but i digress ... although i had run this last in 2019 the course had been altered i think to accommodate and incorporate the sponsors (swansea university) so from the start the course headed out to the mumbles from swansea only to do a loop at mile 2 and a bit before heading back into the city at mile 3 a loop through the city and back onto the mumbles road back at the start line oddly demoralising but the crowds and the runners were fantastic ... managed to run fairly well in the heat until mile 9 when i decided that to make it back in one piece i would have to jeff, up to this point i was looking at a possible pb as well .... the volunteers along the route at the water stations were amazing as well as the martial especially with advice on how to stay cool , and thank you to the lovely woman at abouut mile 11ish with the hose pipe ... with a pb out of the question it was can i get close to my previous time , no but i had a contingency if i couldn't do the others i would aim to get in under 3hrs and my chip time was 2:57
the route back into swansea from the mumbles is stunning, with the sweep of swansea bay to your right , miles of sandy beaches it is amazing however there were a few things that will make or break it for me to do it again..
the course itself especially with the loop back to the start line , didn't do it for me, the medal, there was no reveal which is odd and i had heard it was wooden but it looked like the sponsors had got their tech department to cut them out on their laser cutter. finally the finish line experience ... shambolic ... getting the medal was easy enough but the rest well i felt sorry for the 2 volunteers being inundated with people asking for the items and not even in a bag ... also no finishers tee ...
overall it's a great race, the atmosphere is amazing the marshals and volunteers helpfull but there were a few too many niggles in my mind to make me want to do it again which is a massive shame
pic is at mile 9

It sounds like a mixed bag there, but how disappointing about the faff at the end. Iβm surprised about that with a race of this reputation. Iβm sure the organisers will get plenty of feedback from the runners!
This heat makes running so hard but you did it and you hit your time goal too! Well done and many congratulations to you. And a big well done to the lady with the hose pipe too π₯΅
