Hi everyone, as some of you know I entered the virtual London Marathon today. As the forecast wasn’t good for the morning, I decided to set off shortly after midnight to avoid the worst of the weather👍
My route took me up onto the Bognor Regis bypass, which appears to be used as a racetrack in the early hours of the morning (I saw lots of speeding and reckless overtaking manoeuvres) 😳
From there I went down through the town and onto the seafront, doing my best to avoid the patrons who’d been kicked out of the nightclub on the pier at about 3:30 am.😵🥱
After that I headed to the end of the esplanade without any problems. Everything was going well until after the 14th mile, when my left leg seized up and refused to go any further😖 Luckily I’d taken some cash with me so I was able to get a cab back and I’ve been languishing in bed ever since😒
I’d already booked a physio appointment for tomorrow afternoon, so I’m hoping to find out what I’ve done and what I can do about it. At the moment, I’m not feeling confident so I think I may be in for a prolonged session on the injury couch. I’ll post an update once I’ve seen the physio.
In the meantime, huge congratulations to our HU friends who’ve done us proud over the weekend! I’m signed up for the Worthing 10K next weekend and the Great South Run the following Sunday, but I doubt I’ll be able to do anything except spectate and cheer HU and running club friends on their journeys🏃♀️🏃♀️🏃♂️🏃♂️👏👏

Oh David I’m so sorry to hear that, you’ve been plagued with injury this year haven’t you? I admire your choice to get up and go in the middle of the night - that’s above and beyond! I hope the physio can sort you out, best of luck to you!
I'm really sorry to hear that things didn't work out for your VLM David_G , and I wish you a rapid and full recovery. You're sounding remarkably positive and showing admirable generosity of spirit in the circumstances! 👍🤗
Sorry David that you couldn't complete the Virtual London Marathon, but I hope your physio can help you before The Worthing 10K next week and The Great South Run in two weeks, if not you can spactate like I did this morning at The Great Scottish Run 10k in Glasgow when I saw Elish McColgin setting a new European 10K time of 00:30:18
You definitely deserve a medal for starting a marathon at midnight David. I was so sorry to hear of your injury and hope the physio will be able to work out what has happened and give you the advice you need to get back running again. Take care.
So sorry to read this David, after all your training too! 😩 What’s important now is to rest up and see what the physio says tomorrow - I will keep my fingers crossed for you and hope you are on the mend soon.
Aw I’m sorry things did not go to plan David. Hope your leg is ok. Anyone who starts a marathon at midnight is hardcore! Put this one down to lessons for the next one. 👍🏼
Sorry to hear about your injury .Such bad luck and bad timing. A lesson to us all with your organisation and planning .Not only getting out to start at midnight to take advantage of conditions but, also, being properly prepared in the event of things hoing wrong. Wishing you a speedy recovery and best wishes for your next running adventure.
I did wonder what time you must have set out. That is really hardcore! The forecast for London was heavy rain, but they got it completely wrong! Maybe swerve Worthing in the hope of joining us in Portsmouth?
Sorry to hear you had to stop your marathon David_G Huge well done for all your training & getting to the start line. That’s a massive achievement. Hope your physio appointment goes well 👍🏻
what rotten luck David, and such a disappointment for you. I hope the physio can sort you out and you are back putting one foot in front of the other very soon. Midnight running! What fun!
Hello David_G, I read this post a while back, but I am sorry that I didn't answer it at the time. At that time, I had wondered what the physio said. Now I see from the weekly pom pom post that you are on crutches. I am so very sorry. I do hope that you are healing well.
I have had two periods on crutches. Fractured pelvis - fell off my bicycle because of black ice and broken knee/meniscus tear-fell from a three foot wall while pruning.
I gather that you hope to be at the GSR as a supporter, clearly not at all the same as taking part, but I do hope that you have a good day.
thanks over61andstilltrying I’ve safely arrived at my hotel in Portsmouth for the GSR👍 I’m still on crutches but at least I can support my HU and running club friends! 🏃♀️🏃♂️🏃♀️🏃♂️👍
I am pleased that you have arrived safely. I found crutches to be just brilliant! Without them I couldn't walk a single step, with them I was away!
So are the crutches because of your left leg seizing up? And were you able to find out exactly what injury you had sustained? Any ideas how long you will need crutches? Sorry! I seem full of questions for you!
Thanks over61andstilltrying I’m using the crutches because I can’t walk very far without them, although I do try to use just one crutch when pottering about the house.
I have a sports physio appointment on Wednesday next week and hopefully I’ll have a better idea then what’s wrong, how long I’ll be on crutches and when I can get out again, even if it’s only walking! 😊🤞
