hi everyone,

I’m pleased to report that I completed the Littlehampton 10K this morning as part of my marathon training.

It was breezy but not cold on the south coast, with the breeze blowing inland from the sea. This meant that some parts of the course were easier than others!

It was a well-organised event and lots of runners from my running club took part, with some brave souls even running over 10 miles to get there! Having the support of my running friends really helped and the crowds were great too.

For those that are interested in stats, I finished the event in 1:10:34,according to Strava and my first 6 km were done in about 7:30/km, with the final 4 km being run at a progressively faster pace. I ran the last km in 6:06 and got lots of cheers at the finish line, many of which were from my running club friends.

Overall it was a very satisfying day and it’s great to know I can run faster when I feel the need - a great confidence-booster for the marathon in 4 weeks!

Thanks misswobble I’m feeling quite happy with how the training has been going. 😊 I don’t think I’ll do another really long run before the marathon, but I’m aiming for a half marathon distance next weekend before I start tapering over the following 3 weeks 🏃‍♂️

Good plan. The taper is such a positive thing I reckon. It marks the cut off point between training and the event proper. You reduce distance now, you tick over with shorter recovery runs, some cross training, and start planning logistics if you’ve not already done so Eat well, sleep good and dream about the day 🙂👍🏅

Good run David; you clearly had plenty left in the tank when you finished. It feels as though you have this well under control👏👏👏👏

Well done David. That time was much better than Vitality London 10000, which reflects your full recovery from injury. A lovely medal too.

Thanks Dexy5 it’s been a long road back from injury so I’m taking things easy now before marathon day (apart from a half marathon distance next weekend 🤣)
