Marathon finally complete!

This morning I was support crew to one of our run club runners who was doing virtual vlm. There had been flurries of messages organising routes from their house as a base. So the day finally came as did the rain and wind! I cycled to their house and with other club runners we set off for the first hm. All was going well and positivity was abound. We had run club supporters popping up giving support and a photographer too! My ankle was holding up which was a bonus although my other ankle was niggling instead. With the first half done, we had a quick change of wet jackets and were off on the next 10k with some other supporters. This was going well to the halfway point when my friend was becoming nauseous. The tailwind I think was not enough, food was needed to provide fuel so despite the nausea she had to eat. Once she perked up we completed the 10km so 31km total. Once at her house she ate a bit more food and took some along for the next 7km loop. This loop was very buoyant with lots of supporters along the way. A bit hillier on the return but we had this marathon in the bag! The final 4.2 km was such fun, we were feeling quite good despite the last 38km ran. With new runners with us and the prospect of finishing this marathon there was lots of chatter along the way. The final stretch along her road saw finish lines and banners with her family there to run her in. So 26.9 miles was done in 5hr 38, totally at my friends pace. She was amazing and inspirational. Despite my ankle and foot injury I got round with no issues, that said walking tomorrow may be fun!

I have to say I enjoyed that marathon. The pace was slower than mine but it was really relaxed, no expectations on me!

Ohh, that's fabulous - what a great team effort for your friend. And what a great boost for you too after the bad luck of the last few weeks. Hope you're both feeling great and that the ankles recover well, quickly

in reply tolinda9389

After the last few weeks I was chuffed that this came together on the day. 😊

That's two friends you've helped to a marathon in about as many weeks!

in reply tolinda9389

Thats true! And maybe they have helped to by inspiring me to carry on!

👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏

Congratulations to her and to YOU too!!!

I hope you feel chuffed that your turn came through helping others 🧡

I really enjoyed helping someone else on their marathon journey. My focus wasn't on myself but on her completing her marathon. I had faith that she could do it and she did.

Congratulations to both of you. You’re a great friend to support her all the way through!

in reply toDecker

It was my pleasure to see her achieve that ultimate goal 😊 However, as it is the 2020 VLM she gets to do it all again another year in London 🤣

Congratulations! Sounds like lots of support which is great 👍 😀

There was loads of support for her and we also cheered any other vlm runners we saw. Likewise other runners clapped and cheered her as she passed by. One chap was being paced at an amazing speed and we saw him finish in something like 2hr 30. It was such a fab atmosphere.

Wow! I ran too yesterday. It was great to see other runners. I saw one girl 3 times! Great to have people honk horns in support too. Great experience although I’ll happily never do again! 😂

in reply toJelly-bean16

🤣🤣 it was a final victory lap for all those 2020 vlm'ers who have on/off trained all year, it had to be done. Its not the same as the full London experience for sure 🤣

Thats brilliant, it is so hard to run long distance on your own. You were motivational and great company. I see a new business right there 😊. A mararhon pacer!

I do a virtual marathon in a few weeks. Are you available?!! 😉

Well done 👐👏👏

in reply toTeresa1632

🤣🤣 I think my ankles might still be disowning me by then! Pacing sounds like fun though! Good luck with your virtual marathon, bring home the bling!

I’m so pleased to read this after all your injuries and niggles, just brilliant 🙂 ANd it sounds as if you really enjoyed it all too.

Congratulations and well done to you all 🎈🎉💪

in reply toIrishprincess

After the injury, head cold, dog attack in the last few week, I just went out to run as much as I could and bike whatever I couldn't run. The pressure for me was off in terms of expectations, pace and finish time. This was done the way my friend wanted it to happen, 4 routes starting and finishing at her house for loo facilities! Because of all these things, I did really enjoy it and seeing her finish was brilliant. All those 2020 vlm'ers that finished in such an awful year are inspirational to have kept going.
