First of my three events this year (a 10k next Sunday and Edinburgh HM a fortnight later on 29 May).
Set in Dalkeith Country Park in the grounds of Dalkeith Palace, the trail goes through woods, alongside fields with horses, along the Banks of the River Esk, with the sting in the tail appropriately called 'Heartache Hill' with the only climb worth mentioning making the final 400m to the finish. Oh yes, and in the final Mile there is a sea of bluebells carpeting the forest floor in both directions.
My time was 28:05. My position was 15/156 (which stunned me) and third in my age category (VM50-54).
A great run, on a lovely route for a local young persons' charity; and a bespoke, handmade wooden medal at the end.
