Saturday was a great day out attending the Trail Mix challenge where we ran a different 5K course on the hour for 5 hours, a whopping 25K.
This was my first trail experience, and the Run Director suggested that time wise, we add 30 seconds per KM to our expectations, and to be fair given the terrain that was about right.
The strategy was to set out at a steady pace, and aim for a 35 minute 5K, and if all went to plan just walk the final race if I was able.
On the first race I fell in with another runner of a similar pace, and we dragged each other round the 5 runs, each one getting progressively more challenging
Official times were ...
0:30:19
0:31:13
0:34:31
0:37:00
0:41:44
The final race was more walk/run than run, but determination got us all over the line.
A thoroughly enjoyable day, and I now know if pushed what I can do. My previous furthest run was 10 miles, so I was unsure if I could do this, but so glad I tried it - I will definitely be back next year.
Considering I started couch to 5K in September aged 50, not having run for 30 years, I can definitely say that the programme works, and I am probably now a runner!
