Manchester Marathon Meetup

I figured that if I picked a pub too close to the finish, there wouldn’t be enough room so we settled for one about a mile away in Salford Quays. Was a bit worried as I approached it because it appeared to be shuttered up but I headed round the front and found that it was open.

It was definitely busy but we were able to find a table and has a good old chat (mostly about running, if memory serves me right). The photo shows GTFC , Tasha99 , Catnap99 and yours truly. It was good to meet you folks!

Unfortunately, R4inbow and 00marks were unable to join us.

After the meetup, I wandered off to a pasta restaurant. On the way, I started talking to a couple and ended up eating with them.

To get back to where I was staying, I needed to get to Piccadilly in order to get the bus. Unfortunately, not realising how far it was, I decided to walk instead of getting the tram. According to Google, it took me about an hour to walk the 6k there. Ended up having to stash some extra layers back in my rucksac but I think the walk helped to loosen up my legs.

That would be good but it's a long treck from the North East.

It is, but ……..

Yes! Is Leeds central to people? Even Sheffield? These are potential doable. To me they are way down south🤣

Absolutely!

So far, I've missed a couple of opportunities to meet up with other VRBs here.

(One because it would have meant 2 hours of driving at short notice, and the other because the parkrun was cancelled.)

Travelling can be a problem. For example, although I've driven from Manchester to Aust (Severn Bridge) in a morning, to get there ready for 9am would mean setting off at silly o'clock. Things would be even more fiddly for those starting in the NE.

Yes! Come down to the SW! We’re very friendly! 😀

A meetup round here would be great!

I have a great talent for missing communications so, if there's a meetup around here and I haven't responded, would someone give me a nudge please?

There'll be no escape now you're on cheekychipmunks radar!

We should start planning one SM. But where? Ashton Court, Pomphrey, Eastville, one of the flat coastal ones? So much choice! 🤔🏃‍♀️🏃‍♂️🏃‍♀️🏃‍♂️

The Bridge...

Ah! THAT bridge!

That's probably a good one to go for.

Also, it's very well connected to the motorway network!

Too far for us northerners 😕

We’ll find another mid-country one so we can all go (as well!) 😀

Good question. If VRBs are going to be travelling some distance, then maybe something central like Eastville or Ashton Court maybe? I haven’t run either of them so you’d be a better judge of that than me.

Alternatively, maybe something out of town like Chipping Sodbury or Severn Bridge would work better?

I suppose it depends on how they’re travelling and if they’re going to be staying in the area.

Guess I could add in an Architectural Appreciation tour but that’s highly incompatible with driving so they’d probably have to arrive by train.

Katnap reminded me of Severn Bridge. It’s lovely and my personal favourite. Have you run that one SM?

SkiMonday profile image
SkiMondayUltramarathon in reply to cheekychipmunks

Not yet!

To date, I’ve run Chipping Sodbury, Pomphrey Hill, York and Cheadle Hulme.

Also, with another Marathon coming up, I’m likely to be doing one in Milton Keynes in a few weeks.

Hope you're feeling suitably rested now!

Thanks R4inbow, I’m sure there’ll be other meetups.

Recovery seems to be going OK thanks. It had better be because, having started a new group, I’m leading a run this evening.

Hope you’re recovering well.

Sounds good! If you're going to be taking a few days off from running, it might be worth doing something else to make sure you don't start to seize up (walking maybe?)

Good to see you all in good spirits post race. Lovely to meet up with fellow HU’ers 😀👍🍺🥂🥛☕️

Yes! That walk is hard but useful in unlinking the legs. I got in the car post half marathon recently and commented to my husband that it was a bad idea to get straight into the car, turned out I was right 😩

SkiMonday profile image
SkiMondayUltramarathon in reply to misswobble

Although it can be good to be right, it can sometimes be bad to be right.

Hope you’re back on form now.

Nah not yet, sadly. I’m more crocked post race than I ever have been 🤷‍♀️

Down but not out and am plotting my return 😀🏃‍♀️

You all look so fresh and happy after your run ( I can understand the happy but fresh?)! Then you walked an extra 6km and Katnap drove back home too, madness! (in the nicest possible sense of course). It is a lovely photo though 👍
