Hey everyone, sorry for short post but thought I would update. I did the Manchester Marathon on Sunday. I didn't think I would finish or even start as I had 4 weeks of no running leading up to the marathon. Shin splints got me in training... Ended up suffering a lot on the marathon and I can't tell you how I managed to get to the finish line. Slowed down a lot in 2nd half due to pain but got 4:11:11 which I am really happy with.

Hoping I can get back into running normally soon. Shin splints seems to be over finally!

Been a realy bad few weeks as with shin splints and no running, my dog Blue was put down and my grandma died. Crossing the finish line brought all the difficult journey back to me and just wanted to cry. Really glad I did it it was very cathartic.

Haven't told anyone else but I already signed up for 2019. After being in the "never again" camp for approximately 36 hours. Hope everyone is doing well :)

Well done Kallyfudge ! You must have passed me on the route, cheering everyone on! I was hoarse at the end of the day!

I am sorry to hear of your difficulties in the run up - you did an amazing job getting to the start line, and even more amazing to finish in that awesome time! I hope your training is more smooth next year.

👏🏼👏🏼🍾🎉

Very sorry you’ve gone through such a hard time Kally. You are made of some stern stuff to finish a marathon with full on shin splints. Wow. Hope next year is a much more enjoyable time for you too.

Goodness, you have had a rough time. Need to give yourself a big pat on the back for a brilliant achievement. I thnik the emotion at the end is perfectly normal.xx

Well done on a massive achievement despite such difficult personal circumstances. You have done amazingly well. No wonder you felt emotional crossing that finish line.

Hi Kal 🙂 👋

Congratulations on your fantastic time! Wowsers! 😃👍🏃‍♂️🥂.

Take care with that shin splint! They are horribly debilitating. Calf, arch of the foot and foot exercises to strengthen everything. I transitioned to a 4mm heel offset, and found that helped. I did weeks of physio at home, I didn’t run though, not for ages, and then only every third day and for about two minutes at a time 🙄.

I am so sorry to hear about your grandma and your dog. What a rotten time for you. No wonder you felt so emotional at the end of the race. You carry them with you though Kally, always, and you can think about them and all the happy times you shared as you run along.

Pleased to hear you signed up again. Get your strengthening organised from your toes upwards 💪👍🙂🏃‍♂️
