Finally I have done it!!! My first full marathon. Though timing wasn't great but that was not my goal, my first priority was finishing. Time goal is for next time. I took 5 hours and 55 minutes, good thing is I didn't hit the wall and got the π and t-shirt π

Manchester Marathon
Congratulations on completing your first marathon at the Manchester Marathon, well done, it won't be long before the word half is no longer there next to your username.
Congratulations! I've done a HM and may do a MM, but a FM doesn't currently appeal to me. I really can't imagine running for over five hours!
Thank you π. I was questioning my sanity till the start line and when I crossed finish line, I proved myself insane π
None of us could πππ
I got it down to about 4.30 - 4.40 last year. Hoping to slice some off that this year if my hip behaves
It doesnβt seem that long when youβre running it
Actually I estimated 5:15-5:35 , but I was going too fast in first 15km which cost me last 12km. At one point I was running with 4:30 group (they had pacer with flag). My first half was 2:35, but second half took 3:20, but I am still happy to finish. It's amazing π€
Iβm trying to reply to your original post but the reply box is greyed out π€·ββοΈ No idea why
Anyway this is it π
Great job! Congratulations π₯³ π π The tee and medal combo are lovely π
Thatβs a good time for a first marathon! πͺπ. Your next one will be quicker π
Itβs best to go slowly in the first half or you can blow up. Now you know what to expect, and if you train fully, you can improve next time out π
Yeah.. I had this in my mind, I was kept thinking about slowing down, but in atmosphere like marathon event, we tend to forget. Most of the first timer I talked during the marathon course said this is their first and last marathon, but I will surely be running another one next summer, with better training.
I only do a tiny marathon event so thereβs not the hugely competitive element. Some runners do the βdoubleβ so they definitely pace themselves.
If you allow 16 - 20 weeks training time that would be good π
Right. I did followed 16 week plan but had to skip few runs because I was too tired and fearing injury. Plan for longest run said you should run 32km at least once, but my max was 27km. Next time I will follow 20week plan, but yeah no competition, I just love running and event atmosphere π
I do 32km once ! π. Itβs all I can manage π.
For the occasion I break out my secret weapon! Hula Hoops to be consumed at 20km ππ
If you have run 32km, I'll say you can run marathon anytime, honestly after 30km it's more of your mental strength required, your body is already prepared. One more important thing that I learnt during my marathon prepration is fueling properly. I used to run empty stomach which was tough. One running dietitian on Instagram suggested that forget calories count and eat properly if you want to run marathon, it's also important for post run recovery. In all honesty I can say I followed that religiously and it's only 3rd day after marathon, I am itching to go back for my regular run, I have no jelly legs or any fatigue.
AMAZING!! Well done on this huge milestone! I've just awarded you your well-earned shiny new Marathon forum badge.

Congratulations on your first marathon jrunner
Congratulations! I have managed HM distance twice (only one organised one) .I can't imagine doing a FM so regardless of time you are an absolute hero to me!
Thank you πI used to think same that it will be difficult for me anything above HM... But here I am π. Always remember no human is limited, so keep going and try. Of course listen to your body.
Congratulations marathoner! Fabulous achievement and I'm loving the bling and tshirt!!!
Well done and congratulations! Thatβs a pretty impressive bit of bling there π
Well done!! The time really shouldn't matter on the first one, it's just about actually doing it, which you absolutely did!! ππ»πͺπ»ππ»π
Congratulations on completing your first marathon!
