HHM Training - Week 5 Day 3

Indoors: Speed interval training at the gym today. This is fast becoming my favourite part of the training. I ran for 90 seconds at my 5K pace and then 3 lots of 45 seconds at my 1 mile pace with intervals in between. Did 3 lots of that with a 5 minute warm up. Total time Commitment was 30 minutes. I’m seeing signs of the weight starting to come off and I’m excited. My groin and knee are still not 100% but better than they were and I’m taking extra rest days here and there. I used to fight with myself to go running and I find that I’m actually raring to go now. Quite amazing really. It’s so good for mental health this programme. Let’s see if I can retain the same enthusiasm as the endurance over distance requirements increase. Onwards and upwards…

Well done Dodgy! That sounded like a positive run for you today. I agree, I’m a changed person and really look forward to the speed runs now. I guess before I was doing my own thing with no structure - and clearly I’m better being told what to do! 😀🏃‍♀️

Happy your niggles and weight are on the decline. Results all round. 👏👏👏

Thank you. These speed runs are also encouraging me to lay off carbs and eat healthily. My diet has gone back to being good again after 18 months of overeating. I love feeling fit and healthy, it’s just I’m a bit of a food addict too. I’m going to have to phase out the coffee and croissants soon too. Maybe wait until the weather goes rubbish again. My trips to Gails get me out of the house! Glad you’re enjoying the programme too!

I don’t eat croissants but enjoy post run coffee ☕️

That's so positive! I agree, the speed stuff is the most varied and interesting, if not the easiest!

I actually find it the easiest. I think it’s because I was a county standard 100 metres runner when I was a kid. I’ve always been fast, even now I’m fast(ish) for my age. It’s the long distances I struggle with. I think my physique (when I’m fit) is better for short distances - not to mention my lungs :)

Even better then 😀

Great news that your groin and knee are getting better 👍 And raring to go is a brilliant place to be!

Thank you, it’s a bit hot to run outside so I reckon I’ll stay indoors until it cools down a bit (or until the 15k run). I can do 10k and 8 miles on the treadmill, albeit I have to restart it after an hour.

You can do 8 miles on a treadmill!!!! Blimey, that’s impressive, works wonders for your mental strength 💪 The most I could manage was 7K…

Well so far I’ve only done 10K which was in Week 4 and tbh that was probably more like 8K in reality because I’ve been going by the NRC app. I’ll do another 10K on Tuesday and this time I’ll go by the treadmill. Then if it’s too hot outside I’ll do the 12.8K or 8 miles indoors. I’ll need to venture out soonish because I find running outdoors much much harder. Plus I’ll need to time myself by my Fitbit rather than the NRC app - so plenty of variables yet…

Sounds like the one I did today. I ran outside 🥵. ✅🙂 Good coaching 😃

Very 🥵. Running in the evening would be better but it’s a case of going when it’s easiest. This searing heat won’t last long I suspect 🙂

I’m on 9 weeks to go this week. Just heading out with the guided run, if it’s loaded properly

Have a good week! 😀

I admire you running in this weather. I’m at the gym today for a 30 minute tempo run. Not going outside until it’s cooler!

I just like being outside - fair weather or foul I’m making hay …..🌞😎🏃‍♀️
