WOOHOO you did it!!!

Roseabi or I will edit this and turn it into a suitably awesome post when we have chance. In the meantime share you results below and keep your race reports coming.

You are absolute superstars and I can't wait to catch up properly tonight

πŸ‘ŠπŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ†

⭐ Roseabi here! And a massive WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO from me tooooooo!!!!

In trying to balance out the headwind and the tailwind I somehow ended up finishing my HM miles from home! Seems to be my jam anyway πŸ˜‚ Now I have finally got home and eaten all the food I am ready to get with the HU posting.

REALLY REALLY enjoyed listening to Linda's commentary - WHO ELSE TRIED TO LICK THEIR ELBOW??? ADMIT IT IN THE COMMENTS BELOW!!!!!!

Another revelation for me today was having music to listen to, which I haven't done since graduating Couch to 5K back in er January 2015. I confess I didn't use the official playlist but I did borrow quite a few tracks from it. I finished (checking my watch every 5 seconds!!!) to Bad Moon Rising by Creedence Clearwater Revival - what did you cross the line to?

Anyway, more updates on the way....

Hi all! Bib 351 - 10k in 1:07:00 exactly. Good to be building my distance up again after the niggles and I really enjoyed my run on the trails (as ever!πŸ™‚)Only mishap was a technical hitch with Rungo - it failed to play any of the commentary, just piped up at each km! Disappointing but probably down to my poor tech skills and not having explored it properly before the run.

I was originally going to do my 10k on today, but since this opened a day early I decided to run it Saturday afternoon instead as that was more convenient. My time was 1:03:29 - not my quickest, but not bad as was my first 10k for several months, plus I did also stop to take a few photos :)

Thanks and very well done to linda9389 and the others involved in the organization - it made this a great experience. I enjoyed the playlist (particularly the extended version of Born Slippy!) and the RunGo commentary added some great motivation to keep going πŸ˜€

Cmoi profile image
CmoiMarathon

Hello linda9389 and roseabi ! Thanks again for all your amazing work in organising this. I loved the playlist - well, almost all of it! I didn't use RunGo as this was a very personal run for me and I needed time for my thoughts. I'm hoping to fit in a 10k later this week and give it a go then instead.

Ah, results, you say? Well, I'm bib no. 001 (get me!) and not only was my HM time a PB, at 2:27:44, but I carried on and cracked a metric marathon - admittedly with a bit of Jeffing at the end when my legs seized up - 26.31k with 598m elevation gain. Please may I have a badge?

Even better, my fundraising for the hospice which cared for my late brother-in-law Paul (1958-2008) has now gone past the Β£500 mark.

So I'm a very happy bunny. And yes, I wore the bunny ears in the photo throughout the run. I do not recommend them as a training aid, I spent a crazy amount of time and energy hanging onto them and re-adjusting them. They only fell off once though!

Woman wearing bunny ears, about to run a half- marathon. Yes, really!
Stephen_UK profile image
Stephen_UKHalf Marathonβ€’ in reply toCmoi

Well done, Cmoi. Especially impressive that you did it in bunny ears. Did you get any comments from people?

Cmoi profile image
CmoiMarathonβ€’ in reply toStephen_UK

Thanks Stephen_UK . It's so rural round here I think I only saw nine people to speak to! I'd prepared little slips of paper explaining what I was doing, so I didn't have to stop too long, and gave out just four. Maybe had about 12-15 cars go past too. People were lovely, I got lots of smiles and thumbs-ups! πŸ‘πŸ˜

Stephen_UK profile image
Stephen_UKHalf Marathonβ€’ in reply toCmoi

That’s brilliant – so organised.

Smiles and thumbs-up are definitely welcome.

Cmoi profile image
CmoiMarathonβ€’ in reply toStephen_UK

Where I live, it's perfectly normal - and actually expected - that you say "Bonjour !" to complete strangers. So it would be pretty rude just to run past people, particularly in my Crazy-Running-Bunny-Lady kit! πŸ‡πŸƒβ€β™€οΈ

I must also confess to being a bit obsessive at times. When I arrived at my wedding, and the minister asked if I thought everybody was there, I pointed out that I couldn't really pop into the church to check. Whereupon my brother commented that he was surprised I hadn't had all the guests bar-coded! 🀣

Stephen_UK profile image
Stephen_UKHalf Marathonβ€’ in reply toCmoi

Ha ha. That’s funny.

As for people being friendly, I’m in London so the few smiles or hellos I get are rare and really do mean a lot. Sometimes I wish I lived in a friendly rural area.

SkiMonday profile image
SkiMondayUltramarathonβ€’ in reply toStephen_UK

Most people round here will say "hello". Although I've noticed that, on longer runs that take me closer to Bristol, the likelihood of any acknowledgement drops off rapidly as I leave the local area.

Nice one on completing the HUHM and a Metric Marathon. Those bunny ears can't help with the aerodynamics! I guess it wasn’t too windy today where you are? Presumably, the trees help calm the wind down a bit.

Cmoi profile image
CmoiMarathonβ€’ in reply toSkiMonday

Thanks SkiMonday . Fortunately it wasn't windy here today, and yes, the section in the forest and the valleys helped. But pretty much every time I went downhill, or turned into the wind, I was frantically grabbing at the ears!

Well, all you HM runners who think you were slow, put your minds at rest. I am slow. You are sensibly paced. It's my second HM in three weeks and I'll be 65 in May, and it was pretty windy...

Sadly, being rather technically challenged, I couldn’t get the virtual run or comments to work on Rungo. Sorry for the late reply Linda - having many tech issues today - forgot to start my watch after a long segment (twice! augghh) and wound up running further to make the recorded distance, then I originally posted the full 23.5k as a race time, but then later realized you can't use that for the club run, so I've reverted back to the 21.1 recorded time only and have it here:

strava.com/activities/50262...

Ice and rest from running, but do keep it moving I think. Gentle walks when that isn't painful, building up to a brisk walk and then eventually to a run again.

Lookslikejames profile image
LookslikejamesMarathonβ€’ in reply tolinda9389

I took a nice walk today and it felt much better, so a few days rest with ice should do the trick 😊

CmoiMarathonβ€’ in reply toLookslikejames

It's a gorgeous day here, so rather than catching up on marking at lunchtime I actually went for a walk to check my legs still worked! They do, but I wouldn't have bet on it yesterday evening.

In retrospect, I'm glad that my workload made it impossible for me to run much over the past fortnight. Strava tells me I only ran three times, and the total of those runs was near enough identical to what I ran yesterday! I was clearly much better for having had a rest, so even though I think you're a fair bit younger than me, Lookslikejames , I'd still suggest you take it easy for a little while. πŸ™‚

Lookslikejames profile image
LookslikejamesMarathonβ€’ in reply toCmoi

Yes, to be fair over the last couple of weeks I’ve run more miles than ever before, so to finish that with a half was always going to destroy me! I’m hoping a couple of days off will do me some good and then I can go back to shorter recovery runs

Hello again linda9389 , roseabi and lovely VRBs!

Went out for my first run today after Sunday, minus bunny ears this time, and ran 10.21k in 1:06:28, 208m elevation gain.

That makes my time for the HU Spring 10k (bib 307) 1:05:09, which Strava tells me is my third-fastest 10k time. Seems highly unlikely, but who am I to argue?!

Also delighted to say that my fundraising total currently stands at Β£668 plus Β£110 Gift Aid, with more to come from people who'll be paying by cheque. I'm utterly stunned by people's generosity.

We're back into lockdown as of tomorrow evening, but at least this time I'm allowed to exercise within 10k radius of home, without a time limit or paperwork, as long as it's between 6.00am and 7.00pm. So I can still do longer runs, yay!

Happy running, all!

The ankle felt so much better after repeating C25K W1R1 on Sunday.

I even ran just over 3km every morning from Tuesday this week and felt amazing all day for having done so.

Today I went out in the chill and came back in a sweat, just plodding along, thinking I was going slowly, finishing a 10km with a PR of 1:07:32 (my previous was 1:08:51).

Hi linda9389 and roseabi

1:29:27 for me

Not sure if this actually counts though? A hip niggle turned into discomfort then pain so I resorted to walking 6k in. It was so annoying as everything else felt awesome and I was going great guns and really enjoying myself.

Thanks so much for organizing this. A lot of hard work went into it. I loved the race commentary - it really kept me going this afternoon.

HUHM run this morning in a time of 1:56:31 which I’m pretty pleased with. I had a running buddy to keep me company which was great, particularly as it was tough going in places with the unrelenting Edinburgh hills and warm spring sunshine.

Can I make a late entry for the 10k? I've just clocked a 55:17 PB on my club's Easter Egg hunt.

You certainly can! I did too - though not at that pace!!! How on earth do you hunt for eggs at that speed???

They were laminated sheets on signposts that we had to scan as checkpoints around the preset 10k course. It was originally going to be a Christmas pudding hunt but had to be postponed until now...
