I've been increasing my long run by a mile a week for the Spring HM training but had missed 9 miles and several runs after being poorly for a week or so.
Felt good and properly rested by Monday morning, and I'm off work so set off thinking I've plenty of time so all going well I'll just skip the 9 miles I missed and aim for 10.
I didn't put myself under pressure and decided if I didnt feel fully fit I'd come home at 5 miles so long as I got a decent run in...but I was hydrated, I'd had granola for breaky and took water and a couple of gels with me so was fully covered either way.
Long story short it went really well. After a couple of miles to get into it my breathing felt good, energy levels ok and the only surprise was my thighs getting tired/heavy by the last half hour. 1st time for everything, if I get any complaints it's usually my calves that have had enough.
Anyway, skip forward to this morning and boy are my quads tight, the stairs are a challenge and as for sitting down and getting back up again, well it's fun anyway π...I have the feeling I should have eased myself back in with a couple of short runs but I can laugh about it while I wince π
Just done a gentle bit of stretching and rolling, now off for a walk so I don't seize up entirly π

I'm honestly surprised by the muscle aches, if anything I though my energy levels would have been the problem...I think maybe after a week off my legs would have preferred another 8 miler but it's done now and a couple of rest days and I'll be back out there...probably no wiser than before π
10 miles is a long way so if youβve been less than 100% fit for a while youβre bound to feel it Run46 - but Iβd have done exactly the same as you! Really well done! πππ
Your walk will help loosen you up and youβll be hot to trot again in a couple of days Iβm sure! Iβve topped out at 10 miles with my training as I have 2 HMs coming up with only a 2 week gap. π³
Yes I've seen that Cheeky, you must be mad...but then when you think about it on a HM training plan you'd be doing around 12 miles, then a fall back week before your 13.1 so it's only an extra mile or so and what's a mile between running obsessed loons ππ
Seriously, wishing you good health, well oiled joints and a grand couple of runs...I'm sure as long as you don't try and kill it on the 1st one, you'll be grand for the 2nd πββοΈπ
Thanks so much! Yes, that was my thinking. I wonβt be doing that much more than if I followed the plan to the letter! And whatβs the point in a plan if we canβt go off piste a bit? Youβre right though, us runners are all a bit bonkers! π
And just for the record, I certainly wonβt be killing either the first or second one! ππ€£
