First little group run

Things are opening up more here. I just had my first real haircut in months. The personal ‘bubble’ has shifted from 5 to 10 people now. That’s about what I had pre quarantine anyway, but it allowed for the organization of a small group run yesterday. I kept it to just three people for now, but that turned out to be perfect. We chose a tract of land that I had not been to before and it turned out to be just beautiful with many small single track offshoots and was relatively quiet in terms of people. Helped that we arrived fairly early around 7:30am . Lots and lots of mosquitoes though and lots of map checking. And my companions both had stressful weeks and I am still technically coming off injury, so we kept it short. I also kept stopping to take pics if something caught my eye. I was shooting for 18k but wound up closer to 15 and change. Tried to make up for it this morning with 15k of cycling and a 5k run around a track on the way home. (Yes, I fully realize that logic does not really hold up, but humour me ok? 🙂 ) The best part was getting together for a meal and coffee afterwards. My friend works on a farm and she had fresh farm eggs and apple oven pancakes - so good. First meal with friends since this whole mad thing started. Here’s to some normality on the horizon!

Yay! Three cheers fr some normality. Your track run made me dizzy just looking at it on Strava, the tracks sound and look a much nicer option. I just love how often food feaures in your run reports 😍

Yes to the everyday things we took for granted 3 months ago like haircuts and patios! The track is quite short and I was going to push for 10 bit held back not so much to be responsible, but it was just so hot. I will run much further for good food. I think our run group is structured around food and meals! 😁

Lovely post Decker - we all crave a little normality don't we? Sounds like you had a great morning with your running friends and your photos are lovely - they always are. I guess that's your artist's eye! 🙂

It’s been nice to have some normal runs like we used to have. I was annoying with stopping every 10min to take a pic of something. These two are both very patient :)

I’m envious of your normality Decker, that sounds blissful. Although some people here believe “we’re back” I don’t think we are yet.

I love your photos, that pink flower is gorgeous. I don’t like the sound of the mozzies though 🙀I’d get eaten alive. You do get around and you do seem to be able to explore lots of different run routes. Do you drive to them?

Well tomorrow is Canada Day and it’s going to be a test to see how people behave. We may still see a second wave.

Thank you. There seem to be more flowers about or I am noticing them more! I am still scratching from all the bites. They all went after me and left my run companions alone!

Yes since Covid, I’ve tried to explore more trail routes which are a short drive from home. I try to keep them within 40min from home so I am not out all day :)

Hope yesterday went ok. It’s expected that about 10 million will take to the roads here this weekend as that’s the day lockdown eases 🙀

But, once this settles I need to drive further to explore.....

Gosh, it really feels that things are beginning to blossom again. The longer run then short run/cycle mix will be good for your knees too. Onwards and upwards for you 😊

I’m glad to hear you guys are finally reaching some degree of normalcy. It is so nice to be able to visit with friends again. I haven’t ventured for a haircut or a dine in meal yet but have enjoyed some quality time with a couple of friends. It was the best!

Your trail run sounds so heavenly and the pictures are perfect! Thanks for sharing and taking us to your little piece of paradise 😊

Thanks Allie, Glad you were able to spend some time with friends. It makes a big difference. As for me, yes it was nice while it lasted. Unfortunately I have another glute/hip issue that just occurred in the last day or two out of the blue. I just cant run on it, very acute pain, meaning no runs and losing even more weeks of training. The 50k goal may have to get pushed to next year. So we’ll see how it plays out. 3 years of no injuries and then 2 back to back! Good times!

I’m so sorry to hear this! How frustrating! Take care of yourself and get it healed. I find as I push any distance my right hip/hamstring get tight. I’m on holidays right now and just doing short carefree runs working on increasing my speed but am going to try and work on some hip/glute/core strengthening exercises that I can easily do on the boat. I did some this morning so fingers crossed I can find a routine and stick with it.

It is frustrating. Thought I was done with this. Its good you have found a way to keep your exercises on the boat. I have a few new ones I’ve been given by my physio, but I should do them more regularly.

That’s the issue isn’t it? We have to actually do the exercises given to us 🤣. I know I have a weak glute medius but I continue to ignore my strength training. Oops. It will catch up with me so I better get at it!

I am the same way. I can run or bike consistently, but I have trouble getting the strength work in. I do better when I adapt the exercises into my own sets but I also need to to better 🙂 We’ll get there!
