Well I have not run since October 16th now. First there was the nasty virus and chest infection that would not clear - over 7 weeks!!! And then the niggly hip pain that has been on and off since the summer but has got steadily worse not better. Iโd had exercises to do - no better, painkillers-no help....rested...., soaked in Epsom salts...., rubbed Deep Heat in - nothing helped. Had several sports massages where she really got right into my glutes and I was sure it would help but nope. Dr sent me for X-ray to see if it was arthritis and Iโd frightened myself thinking โhip replacement!! Thatโs it Iโm officially old!!!โ I was having real problems sleeping too as it would wake me when I rolled over in my sleep.
But X-ray came back clear and I was at my wits end ( not too long a journey ๐คฃ)...I finally decided Iโd try the chiropratic lady at Vibrant Life, where I go for my sports massages. Sheโs sorted my shoulder out a few years back after 2 car bumps and whiplash had stiffened it up. So I booked up not feeling very hopeful but clutching at anything now. And after explaining everything to her she did 2 adjustments to my lower left back, around sacreliac joint, then checked me again, then put me on my side and did 2 more at side of hip and thigh. Then put me on my back and did 2 in my pubic bone ( sorry if TMI) and also my left ankle and I felt so much better instantly. She even did some cranial massage and got rid of the headache Iโd had for two days.
I wish Iโd thought to go to her sooner instead of getting to the point where I could hardly stand up and walk. I just kept thinking I hadnโt fallen so it must be just a strain or over stretch. Iโd forgotten that coming from a hyper mobile family I can managed to dislocate or partially dislocate very easily. My daughter gave herself whiplash flicking her fringe out of her eyes once!!!!! And my sister turned her head as she sneezed and put her back out.
I always hated chiro appointments years ago where they click and clunk you and it hurts like hell. This team just do tiny adjustments right in the correct spot and it feels like a static shock if anything. I am walking freely again and hoping to be out running as soon as the new chest infection has gone ๐ก
Iโm gonna be right back at C25k I think but Iโll be back. Oh and my daughter has got her job she has been waiting for, back in North Devon, and will be moving back soon so we can run together again. ๐๐yay!!!

Sounds like itโs all coming together. Iโm pleased you thought of going to the chiropractor, reminds me of 3 years ago i had a headache for about a month so you can imagine what I was worrying about. I was about to fly long haul and suddenly had an inspiration and went to the ostheo. Turned out my neck was slightly out of place and Iโd trapped some nerve which gave migraine like symptoms... immediate result. I am also hyper mobile and just started to realise the implications... i think I need to go regularly to put stuff back in place.. like my femur when I started running (leg felt a bit odd) ๐. Happy return!!
This is interesting to me as I have had piriformis/sacroiliac pain for several months now. I have been to physiotherapist, sports massage, osteopath and podiatrist, and now I'm going for one-to-one pilates lessons. When/if I ever get to run again I will be starting C25K again as I haven't run since August. Glad to hear your chiropractor seems to have helped, please keep us posted on your progress!
Yeah I kept getting told to do piriformis release exercises and doing them religiously and rolling about on the Pilates spiky balls but nothing helped.
Wow, lots of great news there! Re doing C25K is fun! You will enjoy every minute of it. As for not being able to post here .. if that was a 'thing', I should've been kicked out months ago ๐ So pleased to hear you have some progress at last ๐
Such excellent news. ๐ I used to think chiro was all smoke & mirrors, but after Miraculous Wendy fixed my chronic bad back AND helped me see what I was doing to aggravate it, I am a true devotee. They do vary in their approach (and sometimes thatโs a good thing), but one who understands your frame can work what seems like a miracle. So pleased for you. ๐ Also, my experience has been that a short return visit if anything starts to feel persistently โnigglyโ is a good investment. All the best for your return to running. ๐๐ผ๐๐๐ผโโ๏ธ
Yeah I was the same after the clunk click guys but these really seem to work so I shall be popping back to check in now and then if I get any more niggles
Oh wow limberlou, thatโs quite a tale. So glad youโve managed to sort it as those things can go on for ages, and if youโve got a cough it can just put things out even more. Hopefully you can relax over Christmas and start the new year enjoying your runs with your daughter! Have a good one ๐ ๐ผ๐
Iโm really pleased for you limberlou, and it sounds like youโll be limbering up again soon. Starting c25k again will be fun as you know you can do it, and it will get your body used to running again.
Yeah Iโm looking forward to it. Just need to get my chest clear again and Iโll be out there. At the moment as soon as the cold air hits it Iโm coughing up a lung. ๐ท
Oh dear, sorry to hear about your months of pain and no running but good to hear that you have sorted it out. As you say, just need to get rid of the infection and then you are ready for the off! Enjoy revisiting C25k, you can relax and take your time All the best to you.
PS you are near to me - I'm in West Somerset - lovely part of the country isn't it
