After my fab new forest half marathon and subsequent euphoria I booked on the bournemouth half marathon which is this weekend. Training between the two has gone well until tuesday last week! On Monday morning I did a 20 minute HIIT session followed by an easy evening run. All good. When I swung myself out of bed Tuesday morning I gave myself a groin strain, argghh. I hobbled around work and dosed up on ibuprofen, cursing my stupidity. It is mainly a sharp pain on side ways movement and sometimes feels like my hip needs to find the right place! Walking was ok mostly. It was feeling ok on thursday so I did a 9.5 mile easy run. I could feel it a bit on the last mile but not painful. So I have rested since. Yesterday I saw my sports physio who suggests hip aggravation and some exercises. She is hopeful that a short run Thursday would be fine and the half on sunday. It is ok but I can feel some discomfort. There is weakness in the joint currently. So will i run Bournemouth half on sunday, that is the question!

Will I run Bournemouth half??
You've been signed off as good to go! Green light! Go go go go.... π€ͺπ€£π€£π€£π€£
I know but it doesn't feel 100% yet, maybe it will be better by thursday.
Oh pffft! That was unlucky! But, if your physio thinks you can make it then Iβd say you are good to go. π I developed ITB syndrome three weeks before my half this September and was distraught! But, with the okay from my physio, some rest and some hardcore strengthening exercises I made it! I had to walk a bit of the second half of my race, as it flared up again, but I finished with a half decent time! All the best to you for race day, and most importantly - enjoy! x
Thank Sadie, that is very encouraging!
Maybe I'd better put you on my list... π
Seriously though, see how it goes on Thursday and then rest after that, you should be fine! xx
Can't answer the question for you (and probably shouldn't as I already have a proven record of making poor choices π€) but will send some healing vibes and keep my fingers crossed for you.
Thank you, I feel I need some healing vibes π
If your physio has said good to go, I would go
When my hip doesn't feel in the right place (happens occasionally since my daughter was born), I lift my knee up while standing and rotate my leg out towards the hip, jog 2 steps on the spot and do the same with the other. That's was the osteopath did for me when I needed treatment after the birth
Oh that is a very useful tip, I shall try that when it feels 'out' next time. It is certainly less clunky which is good!
If the Physio says you are good and it feels good on the day, then why not go for it? ππΌπ It really comes down to how it feels though.
Absolutely, if it feels good I am going to enjoy the run!
Of course you will Helen! I've had a bit of groin strain before, thought I had it before my big run the other week but it held off. Go and enjoy. I did my 1st 10k event there is 2014! Really loved it and great medal too previously and nice purple tshirtπxxx
Haha I.am only running for the lovely purple tshirt, bet they change the colour this year π€£
ππI reckon it'll stay it's on all their stuff! Xxx medal is unusual most years ,i wasn't sure on it to start with but grew on me! we ran on the Saturday then watched HMand full on the Sunday! Good fun! Xxx
I am doing the opposite, arriving on saturday to watch the 10k (some of our run club are there), staying over to run the hm in the morning. It might give me a feel for the marathon! I get to see the tshirt and medal before I run so it better be good π€£
I did a 4.5 mile run this morning but not as a gentle pace as my legs wouldnt slow down. After the first km I was consistently 6-6.10min/km, naughty me! I could feel my hip niggling. Not sure if it is maranoia helping to feel everything but the left leg is weaker still. So not right still. Run completed and still pondering over the hm on Sunday.
