So like everyone else, the half marathon I had signed up for in April was obviously cancelled. I started training for it back in November and I decided that I was going to stick to my training plan and still go ahead and run the distance.
So I set out early Sunday just over a week ago. It was tough, it was warmer that I had been used to running, my route had some killer hills in it. Halfway through I was fighting the mental demons. I didn't think I was going to make my goal time so was discouraged by that. When I got to mile 8, I really just wanted to quit. I walked which I never do. But I did it, and I managed to do it just under my goal time of 2 1/2 hours.
It seems like a bit of distant memory now I had my week off and now I am starting another half marathon plan on my Garmin app with a time goal of under 2:15 (I really like the structure of having a training plan). Really proud of myself for sticking to it and finishing, especially since I have only been running since June last year when I started Couch to 5K

Great stuff! Good work! Training pays off, and having a plan is key to getting out there and ticking off those runs. I print mine off and tick off the runs as I work through them
I did a half marathon "race" too recently and got the medal which was lovely to get through the post
Brilliant! That is fantastic progress in less than a year to HM! I agree with you on the plan aspect. I find it much harder to train without some structure.
Congratulations! That's a great achievement. It's hard to push yourself without the race atmosphere, but you did it in style! Huge progress in such a short space of time.
You need an HU badge for that achievement - you get a choice just now, the limited edition 'Virtual Half Marathon' or the normal 'Half Marathon' badge. Let us know which you'd like and we'll polish it up for you!
