I did southsmpton marathon as my first earlier this year. I have to say that I am running up to 12 miles again now but I cant believe I was regularly doing much more miles! Anyway I am toying with the following for next year;
London marathon ballot (unlikely)
Brighton marathon
Day 2 30 miles race to the king (is this possible solo for me??)
Bournemouth marathon.
So if it were flatter road marathons of bournemouth and brighton which should I do?
I think you have a better chance on competing in the Bournemouth or Brighton Marathon than London, ask someone like Dexy5 which of those two are flatter.
Thank you roseabi, that is interesting that brighton is the flatest, but not much in it. I dont think london will happen realistically but I will look at the training seasons and distance from home etc. Race to the kings is an option that I am toying with but it will be hillier and trail neither of which I am used to!
I've just looked at the Bournemouth route and it suddenly seems very very real and a very long way! ππ€£π€£π€£ Denial was great lol. I'll break it into little chunks, it'll be fine I'm sure!
That's the way I did Southampton marathon was to break it into sections. My mind knew I could get to 20-22miles as I had covered that in training, and the rest was the home straight. I didn't anticipate hitting the wall at 19.5 miles as it never happened in training but I got through it and continued running. You will do the same, trust in the training.
Flat routes are usually undulating in my experience! Good luck with bournemouth and feed back about your day. I am looking for next year, probably not feeling it for two marathons in one year!
Thank you. I'm having a slight panic after looking at the route.... π It seems all too real now and close! I think once I move up in my miles I'll feel easier. It is a huge thing to do though! But then that's why I want to do it I guess!
