Week 7 Run 1

10 x 3 min intervals at between 5-10k pace was on the plan. Arrived at the club and it was the head coach taking the session and he takes no prisoners. We started with 20 mins of warm up drills and technique based training to raise our heart rate before the session. I have never had a problem with low heart rate 🤦🏻‍♀️ so was slightly worried how the intervals would go when I was already starting out of breath! The first few sets were a bit of a challenge to get the pacing right, but I purposely walked slowly between each set to bring my heart rate back down. By about the 5th one everything seemed to settle down and I ended up doing the last 3 sets faster than my 5k pace without too much stress.

My Achilles however is very unhappy this morning - sore to put weight on. (I have aggravated it with 5 days of big miles on the motorbike). Going to go to see the sports massage lady to see if she can fix it before it gets worse. I had tendonitis in it a few years back so do not want a repeat of that. Slightly frustrating as I have a 10k race this Sunday but remaining hopeful.

Controlling hr is quite a challenge. I’ve learned a lot from my hr zone training. It’s worth it though in terms of improving your running.

I’m keeping my fingers crossed for you that your Achilles is ok for the race in Sunday.

Aw, thank you. Sports massage was brutal but I can now walk without hobbling and with some ice and rest it should be okay. Just need to be patient!
