Lovely 8k run in the sun ๐Ÿ˜Ž

Whoo Hoo! UpTheStanley has been given the all clear and discharged by the consultant 3 weeks after his cataract operation. He wasnโ€™t allowed to run but did sneak in a 5k at my pace on Sunday just before his appointment. Letโ€™s face it, running at my pace is not strenuous to him and hardly raises his heart rate.

We woke up to beautiful blue skies and sunshine this morning so I headed off to do an 8k , while he went to our new parkrun start to run a virtual parkrun. The wind was gusting 30mph SE and I decided to run into it on a NRC 8k guided run with Coach Bennett . Those first 2km were tough, and it felt the equivalent of running up a hill, so good practice for the start of the Monsal Trail 10k.

I was really pleased with this run as I only walked when I decided to have a nibble of energy bar in the 5th km by the Hayling Island Ferry. When I returned to the promenade it was just so much easier with the wind on my back.

Practically perfect negative splits. Have a nice week everyone.

Fantastic news that UTS can run again after his cataract operation. That was a.nice 8K you ran today Dexy5 , just by coincidence I also ran 8K this afternoon, same here in Scotland, the weather was lovely and sunny but with a fresh east wind, the temperature was about 8C so running against it was a little chilly, my time for that 8K was just under a hour at 0:59:47, most of my 8K runs are around a hour, the fastest being 56 minutes and the slowest 64 minutes, good luck for your Monsal 10K โœ”๏ธ

Glad you enjoyed your run too AlMorr . Yes I usually run 8k in an hour but 65 minutes today in the wind.

A strange thing happened during my 8K this afternoon, for the second time ever during a run a rash appeared on my forearm, it was a bit itchy for a short time, I don't know what caused it, when I got home I noticed a bit of a rash also on my stomach too, however, within 20 minutes the rash had completely gone.

Thatโ€™s strange AlMorr . I wonder if it was asome kind of heat rash? Or have you changed your washing powder or liquid?

AlMorr profile image
AlMorrHalf Marathonโ€ข in reply toDexy5

It may have been due to the light jumper I was wearing, immediately I got home I took off that jumper and within 20 minutes the rash had gone, I now have changed the washing powder and will wash that jumper before I wear it again.

Thanks IP. A bit of a left ankle twinge afterwards so I think Iโ€™m going to try my new shoes in waiting on my next run.

I am juggling two pairs at the minute but both are nearing 400K which is close to when I usually start to have niggles, so Iโ€™d better get on to it ๐Ÿค—

Oh yes; bin them immediatelyโ€ฆโ€ฆwe donโ€™t want any niggles. Health and Safety and all that. My new shoes are much faster than the old ones. ๐Ÿš€

Hi Dexy5, beautiful day here on south coast ๐Ÿ˜Ž. I love watching the kite surfers when theyโ€™re out. Great news for UTS, Iโ€™m sure heโ€™ll be up to speed before you know it. Wow, good on you for keeping up with the longer runs, Iโ€™m mostly plodding on with 5kโ€™s and the odd 6k, so should challenge myself to do Ju Juโ€™s plan again sometime soon. Happy running, enjoy sunshine ๐Ÿ˜Š

Hello Tetleyteagirl ๐Ÿ‘‹

Oh yes you get lots of kite surfers there too. Itโ€™s less than 3 weeks until our Monsal Trail run so Iโ€™m a bit behind the curve but hoping to do that next week. Maybe we should do the new Billy Trail if the weather is fine.

Jujuโ€™s plan is just perfect for increasing distance. Good luck to you.

The top end of Billy trail has recently been resurfaced from bridge down to Esso garage, the other half of trail is like itโ€™s always been. Itโ€™s just about 5k end to end. Makes a lovely change from sea front. ๐Ÿ˜Š very best of luck for Monsal trail, is that 10k?

Sounds like you are well on track for your 10k Dexy - and glad to hear that UTS has gern given the okay.๐Ÿ‘ I bet he found it tough not running for 3 weeks!

Dexy5 profile image
Dexy510 Milesโ€ข in reply toSandraj39

He did indeed Sandraj39 . It was very hard to stop him doing lots of things, but he got there in the end.

I think that we runners are very impatient patientsโ€ฆ.

But if my physio says โ€œdonโ€™t runโ€ฆ..and if you do I will be able to tell!โ€ You do as your told ๐Ÿ˜ฌ. Time for my exercises!!

Glad to hear UTS has the all clear Dexy - too much temptation to bend the rules! Yes it was gorgeous today - despite my cold I managed to get out for a cautious 5k this morning without too much coughing!

Such good news about UTS Dexy5 , and I hope your ankle twinge is short lived. Lovely day for a run today (not that I did one), and enjoy your new shoes.

Am I allowed to start the butterfly flutters now for Monsal Trail or is it too early? ( ๐Ÿฆ‹ )
