So today was the dreaded weekly interval session. I decided to run this one on grass to avoid injury and, although it was uneven, there was a narrow worn path that I could follow. My joints appreciated the extra cushioning afforded by the grass.
I used the 2.5km to the grass as a warmup and after a few dynamic stretches got straight into it.
Pesky little black flies kept getting in my mouth and eyes but I stuck at it, only removing the ones from my eyes at the end of the interval.
The grass section is almost exactly 1km long which is perfect for this session, which I amended slightly from the plan, which called for 800m intervals. I kept the 2 minute rest in between though.
The plan for me was to try and keep the interval pace consistent and as close to target race pace as possible. I was also using this session to focus on my form after watching the recommended video by instructor57 in another thread here. (A really excellent find and definitely worth a look).
The channel is also excellent. Search up James Dunne for tons of really great running videos. π

I managed this fairly well and completed the 10 intervals in 44 minutes exactly, but I do wonder whether my sub 45 target is too ambitious now based on how I felt in the last 2 splits. And come to think of it, running these times without a break in the race itself, seems impossible at this point. I shall persist and see what transpires on the day itself. There are too many other factors that will influence my time so no point worrying over this.
Between every second split I took a sip of water and I also had two sherbet lemons to suck on. I love lemon sherbets π
2.5km warm down and then straight into static stretches and a cold shower.
Today is a rest day. I will need it.
