An Indulgence (no need to reply)

I just got the official pictures through from York. I’ve never bought any before but due to the weather on the day cold and phone in plastic bag in pocket I had no visual record of the day. When I said I was enjoying myself in my earlier report I think you can see I was! This may have been taken at 20k but I’m fairly sure it was actually at 30k. I had just gone over the timing device so it was one of those and if you look closely between me and Mr Orange😀 you can see people running the other way, I think, around the Dunnington section, which puts it at 30k. Either way I now have some pics of a day to remember. And you can see it was still raining.Think I’ve milked the situation now😂. Thanks for your patience👏

I love a smiling official photo! That's brilliant 😁 And whilst it's a real shame you didn't get to cross the finish line you talk about the race so positively it doesn't matter at all, it just sounds like you had a fab day even with the additional leg crunch and that's quite something!

(I also love the ones where people are doing this face with the effort 🤪, or even 😵)

I hate having them taken but sometimes....

It’s making me smile now.

Oh man me too, but that is such a great photo, and a perfect snapshot of a day that by rights should have been traumatic—but actually sounds mostly brilliant! It's a shame we can't post more pictures here as that is surely the kind of genuine smile that sells marathon running to the masses 😂

I always rage about the price of the official photos and the ludicrous faces I pull and the fact everyone else gets millions to choose from and I only get a couple but...I always buy them 🤭 😞 I don't show anyone, but a year on I am still so impressed at myself for getting out there and doing something I never thought I would do that I kind of like to secretly have the evidence! I even bought the GNR one that I hated so much, where I look like like a determined but angry truck. It's a moment in time I felt should be recorded.

😂.

I’m too mean!

Yep they said people often had 20+ to choose from.

Me I got 9 and really only 3 as the other 6 were variations of those (I heard that shutter clicking away). Just another “funny” to add to the day.

Oh Annie, that’s a fabulous photo, I really feel for you, for the pain you had to come, which must have been really awful, you’re a star to be so positive. As for buying photos, I’m always sold if I look like I’m flying,(happens very rarely, so they HAVE to be bought 😂🏃‍♀️) and there is one I bought to get it out of circulation.....I looked all wrinkly, like I needed ironing....😱...😂...enough to scare small animals and children that one...gah! 🤪

Me too Madge 😁☺️

Lovely photo 😃👍. Good to have a brilliant photo from the day 😃

What a great photo and what a great smile Annie. I can't believe you look so happy at 30km - you're tempting me to run farther ! By the way, I am either looking at my feet or grimacing in official race photos so I'm not tempted to buy them at all ;)

I like distance running especially when the route is worked out for you. I’ve been running 6 years now and have only just, this year, started regular long distances of over HM and further. Before that it was ‘just’ HM. I think you are quite new to this so by all means build your distances but make sure you listen to your body.

in reply to AnnieW55

Thanks, I will. My body does tend to make itself heard - it's no shrinking violet if it doesn't like something. I apparently have osteoporosis and osteo (whatever the lesser one is) so your long post was a cautionary tale for me. I'll talk to my consultant before doing anything more than 12-15 km distances I think.

I was told I had mild osteopaenia (the milder one 😀) at the beginning of Sept. I work for an Osteop Consultant and he asked if Id be interested in having a scan after a chance conversation on my exercise/diet. Always keen to learn about my body I jumped at the chance. Coincidence or hunch he was as surprised as me at the result. But there was never any doubt that I was ok to do what I was doing. He called me earlier in the week asking if I’d fallen as it shouldn't have happened 🙃. My family will tell you, I am the awkward one.

This was just one of those things - I don’t want to scare/put anyone off.

Post was meant for Madge50

😂 see my reply to Sqkr just above.

I was vain enough to pick one showing a vague running motion 😊.

Annie you look great in this pic. Its obvious you are really enjoying the moment, blissfully unaware of what was to come. I can only hope that I look half as happy at the end of my run tomorrow 😁. And I hope that I can deal with pain and adversity as gracefully as you have.

Thank you so much Decker. You will be great.

I look forward to your report, you always put in such a good one.

Very Best Wishes for the run tomorrow.

(No adversity allowed - I’ve already taken it for the team 😀)

What a great pic; you were really enjoying your race, weren't you? My race photos are never worthy of purchasing - grimacing, fish face, or weird expression 😬😗😜

AnnieW55 profile image

Thanks Sask. I was.

The photos are always so expensive (as well as not very flattering). I only had 9 so they worked out at GBP 3.30 each! For digital! Not even a print! Can you hear my voice rising😂.

That really shows just how true the old saying 'ignorance is bliss' is!

Fab photo. Great smile. That's definitely the moment to remember, not everything that followed :)

I've only seen one photo of myself running - at Park run - and it is truly, truly awful. I look very special in the wrong way :D I've had to introduce a new training element - practice smiling and running (at the same time as continuing to breath) :)

I avoid photos generally as I always look very special too!

That is such a great pic Annie , you look so relaxed , smiley and comfortable . I am so sorry to read about your leg . What a shock !

Hope you’re on the mend soon xxx

Thanks Poppy. I’m on the mend but I guess it’ll be a while before my running shoes get used for running in - the new role for one pair is slippers gotta keep your hand/foot in 😀.

I hope your own event went well last week.

Hi Annie, I have just read this post and your York Marathon post! Not the most usual of posts by a long, long way. Oh! Aw! Poor you! What a lovely photo, the joy shining from your face. It seems that this was your first marathon? I am so sorry that it ended in that way. I wonder how the healing process is going? I fractured my pelvis once, coming off my bicycle on ice. I found crutches almost wonderful! Totally immobile without them, and 'walking' with them a doddle. All the very best for your recovery. I have know idea how long such a break takes to heal. Here are some flowers for you 🌸🌺🌼.

AnnieW55 profile image
AnnieW55 in reply to over61andstilltrying

Thank you 61. It was my first full marathon - still yet to complete one! My husband (a non-runner) has said that if I do do another one, he’s doing it with me! Bodyguard😀.

Yep, I’ve certainly had a whole host of new experiences (that I would rather have done without 😀). I’m finding things pretty much like your experience in that crutches are brilliant. I’m off work for 6 weeks with the option to extend if necessary. Not allowed to drive for about 6 weeks🙁. Mind you I’m nowhere near ready for that experience yet!

The flowers are lovely.
