Interleukin 17

I always wondered how far off the mark I was being when I thought, or even wrote or spoke, about the fact that I had had one or two patches of psoriasis and wet eczema that came and went 10-15 or more years ago, and questioned whether the CNV I had developed might do the same, only leaving more permanent damage behind.

Recent reading seems to confirm that these conditions may be related. Interleukin 17 (IL-17), it seems, is very involved with the development of psoriasis and atopic dermatitis, and it seems CNV:

Now a little worried cramps and skin tingles and so on aren't MS!

The whole system - or rather set of systems - of interleukin and related mediators of inflammation and neovascularisation is so complex, I don't think it would be possible to cram much useful into a forum reply even if I completely understood it, which I don't, I can understand each of those papers, but no idea how they fit into the wider picture of current understanding of interleukins,

There would seem to be a number of correlations, particularly with other conditions affecting capillaries, but I don't think the genetics and physiology are yet understood.

Yes, it's all terribly complicated and not nearly all fully understood and got together. I remember some years back, I read about all that is involved in developing cancer – it seems a lot needs to happen for it to develop (and a lot needs to be done to get rid of it, of course), but I'm really needing to start again to understand this interleukin stuff.

I'm beginning to think that the reason we don't get IL-17 blocking drugs might just have a tiny bit to do with cost.
