Blurry vision after 2nd Avastin injection

Hi; Developed idiopathic CNV with serous detatchment of my macula. Received my first avastin injection a month ago. Received my second yesterday afternoon and also the doc did a steroid injection. Note that my vision was extremely blurry after my first Avastin injection which lasted about a day. Yesterday, post injections, my vision became more blurry than the first injection a month ago. Doc examined my eye after I told him about the blurriness and said my cornea was very dry and gave me some artificial tears. The blurriness began to subside last night but this morning, it is not completely gone. The acuity is also a bit diminished. Called the doc this morning and he seems to think that there is some corneal edema due to the iodine that is used to sterilize the eye before the injection or a possibility of increased ocular pressure due to the fact that I received two injections. Somewhat worried since my vision has already declined in that eye and is now worse since having the second injections(but still better than before I received my first injection). Anyone have any insight regarding blurriness post intravitreal steroid and Avastin injections? Thanks!

Hi Edman and welcome to the forum. What was the doctor's suggestion when you spoke to him the next day? Did he tell you to give it a few days? I'm not familiar with Avastin injections but what sometimes happens with Eylea injections is that the sight can get a little blurry for a few days afterwards but I don't know if that would be the same as Avastin.

Hi SpringCross, Doc said to give it a few days and keep using artificial tears and call if it doesn't improve. I'd think Avastin and Eylea would have similar side effects. My thought is my vision has improved since my first injection and didn't notice the blurring after the first injection. But who knows. :)

Yes I did wonder if it would be similar. It will probably improve so give it a while and see but if not, do as he says and ring. Good luck. Let us know how it goes. xx

Just wanted to update. I saw another doctor at the center and she saw no infection but was concerned that the steroid may have temporarily worsened my vision and recommended to not have any more steroids. The vision has improved and is now somewhat better(5 days post Avastin) than it was before the injections. Problem is the fluid under my macula has caused much distortion and the better the vision gets, the better I can see it. I'm hoping this latest Avastin injection stops the leak and the fluid begins to resolve. It is quite frustrating as it is quite a lengthy process and sometimes seems unbearable.

At least it's improving Edman, that's good news. Thanks for the update. All the best. x

I get blurry vision after either anti vegf inj or steroid implant ( ozurdex). Min 24hrs, up to a few days. Always clears.

Hi: I have been on Avastin and in Oct. I get my 7th 8 wk shot. Thank God I feel fine after the injection. The only thing my doctor does, which I never heard from anyone else is: The day of my shot he covers my eye with a patch and advises me to take it off the following a.m. which I do. When I questioned him about "why the patch" he said its extra protection and doesn't want me to get any eye infection because some people, without realizing it will go to scratch or itch their eyes. So I am glad that he is being extra careful and it doesn't bother me. Especially with the COVID around. Other than that I feel fine. The following a.m. patch gets removed and I have a floating black ball for a coupla hours and then it goes away. I love my doctor and he is very gentle with me.

I've actually heard two different reasons for the patch. One , like you mentioned, to prevent infection. The other is to prevent rubbing the eye and cause a corneal abrasion which is quite painful. I try not to rub my eye post injection and instead squint really tightly to get the tears flowing which is helpful. Not sure is squinting like this could create a problem. Sounds like you have a great doc.

Hi edman, can you please tell how long it took you to get away with blurr vision? I took my third Avastin shot three days before, and my vision is blurr since that day. Checked with doctor she said everything seems fine outer side of the eye, and eye pressure is 16/10 in both eyes. She said nothing dangerous she could see as of now, and asked me to relax and come back with oct..this blurness is giving me anxiety and panic attacks as it's not going away and dominating the other eye. Is it because of pre-scheduled injection? Took it 8 days before the 30th day. ??
