I have been insulin dependant diabetic for 40 years, which has been the cause of my eye conditions. I was one of the first patients my consultant gave eye injection, I've had three steroid implants, lots of Lazer and eye injections. Last year I had a sever bleed at the back of the eye resulting in nil sight in that eye . My eye had red, purple floaters and cotton like lines all over the eye. I had a further course of injections and then a vitrectomy, this was three weeks before Christmas. I came out of hospital with my sight restored and I even cooked the Christmas do. My advice to all is take whatever treatment you're offered grab with both hands and don't dwell on how many injections you've had or Lazer treatment etc. and keep smiling

I'm really pleased to hear that 123charl and long may that continue for you.
I am pleased to hear your sight was restored.
I quite agree. I have diabetic macular oedema in both eyes. The left eye has not required treatment for over a year and the right eye is worse and I have had a fair few injections, laser and the latest a steroid implant in my eye. At my appointment last week I was told the vision and oedema have both improved in that eye.I was unsure about having the implant as I thought it might be an uncomfortable injection but the doctor who did it was a wizard and I didn’t feel it at all. I was also worried about the possibility of the implant being visible to me. It is at times but not a worry. I am so glad I took up this treatment.
a heartening story, pleased for you.
This is such good news for you.
I guess you are able to drive still?
I am speaking at 2 large conferences next week - Diabetes UK professional Conference and also at the Diabetic Eye Screening Conference the next day- no pressure hey! I am taking about the hope of new treatments and although my sight could not be saved as I have diabetic macular ischemia in both eyes it’s lovely to hear that for some treatment has worked. I do believe blindness is not the inevitable outcome now when you have retinopathy and that is one thing I will be speaking about. Having lost my job and driving license as I was dx in 2011 when only kne lot of treatment was available and it’s DMO I have not really DR. It’s good to be able to share good news.Very pleased for you.
