Ozurdex Injection

Hi, I'm getting an ozurdex injection. I have had somewhere between 75-100 injections with Lucentis and now Eyelea. It usually takes 24 hours for my eyes to start feeling normal again. How much more does the Ozurdex hurt? And does it take longer to recover?

Hi, I'm on my second ozurdex. I'd had 23 Lucentis and Eyelea inj, some more painful than others.

The first implant ( bottom of eye) I didn't feel a single thing. And it was done by a Dr who had hurt me more than once before! I was extremely nervous .

Second implant,(top of eye) different person, tiny quick pain then slightly uncomfortable pushing sensation as the Dr seemed to rub my eye with a finger as if moving the implant ( no idea what she was actually doing).

I used to find inj in top of eye painful before and it was not as bad. Probably because as well as the anaesthetic drops we get an anaesthetic inj too ( that inj didn't hurt either time).

Recovery seemed the same to me. Although I did get my worst ever bleed after the first one (see pic on previous post lol) which took longer to become comfortable. Don't think that was specifically due to the implant though as second one just a small blood spot.

Currently I am oedema free ( 14 weeks, never happened before nor so long without deterioration) so hope this gives you hope . Best wishes going forward. X

I have never heard of ozurdex is this new? I am currently getting eyelea I have had 2 in left eye and 1 in right eye I was told it’s a series of 3 shots I have macular edema

Hi Thom3patty, it's not new. Just different . It's a steroid implant as opposed to an anti vegf inj.

I believe the anti vegf inj are the first choice of treatment. With them you get a ' loading dose' of 3 per eye affected then a review and more inj if needed. As far as I know, the steroid implant is offered if the anti vegf inj don't work. It has higher risks of cataract and raised IOP.

Wetmd sufferers can't benefit from the ozurdex so don't get offered it.

Sounds like you have yet to finish your loading dose and there's every chance eyelea will work for you. Good luck going forward x
