Hi Koalajane. I think the best people to ask is your rheumatologist, ophthalmologist and/or your GP as they have your health records. I hope you find the information you need.
Ah, sorry Koalajane, I've just looked up dexamethasone and found it's a steroid so now I understand what you mean. Would it be worth asking the ophthalmologist I wonder?
I will ask but don’t find they know a lot about anything else.
My diabetes has been in remission for 5 years and I am continually told my oedema is because I don’t control my diabetes, my hba1c is well below diabetic range!
When I told my diabetic nurse what they had been saying to me she was shocked and told me to be more assertive about it when they say this. She said that there was nothing else I could do. Strangely the next opthamologist was a consultant who said as I walked in how well I looked and my control was very good. She was a laser specialist and offered laser as well. My next appointment was with another consultant who Offered the Ozurdex. She said it can give you cataracts and I t9ld her I had got them from the steroids. She looked at my eyes and referred me to her cataract clinic!
I never got offered these by the others who are not consultants!
I wasn't put on the list for cataract surgery until my consultant asked me if I wanted to be put on it, in spite of her telling me how bad it was. I still waited eight months after my pre-op appointment and only got it because I rang the hospital and asked them if they'd forgotten me!!
I was surprised about mine as when she looked she said they were moderate. I thought they had to be really bad! Pre op assessment in just over a week so we will see and I will ask how long I will be waiting as my Eylea injections have been put on hold!
I was told I wouldn't get mine done until it was really bad and it really was bad (I also have wet AMD in that eye too) - they couldn't read the scans properly because of it. Having it done has made my vision so much clearer. I've begun to notice the one in my right eye is getting worse, although only slightly and slowly.
I hope you don't have to wait long after your pre-op. Let us know how you get on.
I waited to see an eye doctor who had to speak to a consultant as the ozurdex had not been ordered and the doctor who could do it was running the clinic anyway. Sio I had my Eylea injection and will get the implant after my eye has healed in March after the cataract op. So all that stress for nothing!
I'm really sorry to hear that Koalajane, how really disappointing for you. It wasn't very efficient of whoever is responsible was it - a case of the right hand not knowing what the left hand was doing it seems! At least you got the Eylea injection though. Good luck with your cataract op, I hope all goes really well for you and you've not long to wait now. x
Imho I would say you will be ok as although ozurdex is a steroid itself the dose is small and the implant lasts 3 months it should not interfere with anything else.
