Lasers?

I have been told that lasers for the visudyne treatment are no longer manufactured. This is an alternate treatment that worked for many people. How do we find lasers when nothing else works?

Hello Burnt,

Photo Dynamic Therapy (PDT) using Visudyne is still used in some cases, but anti-VEGF injections such as Lucentis, Eylea and Avastin are considered to be first line treatments for wet macular degeneration.

Please see our booklet about treatments at the following link;

macularsociety.org/sites/de...

The treatment you will be given will generally be at the discretion of your hospital consultant.

If you would like to discuss further, please call the Macular Society helpline on 0300 30 30 111 (9.00am to 5.00pm Monday to Friday).

Best wishes

Thank you. My right eye was treated with the lasers and has been in remission for over 5 years, no, leaks no black spots, no wavy line, 20/40 and no shots so I am very interested in finding a working laser to treat the left eye.

I was told by the doctor the lasers do too much scaring. My mother had them, didn’t make her eyesight any better.
