When I first developed Wet (myopic) macular degeneration my BUPA insurance covered me for 2 years but no longer. I don’t think any insurance will cover you for a condition you already have - insurance is not usually valid for ore-existing conditions.

In fact remember to declare it on you travel insurance or your insurance won’t be valid. I have had no trouble getting insured.

My UK private insurance paid for the first three injections and I was then referred to NHS treatment, which l have had from then on. My private consultant told me that this is the maximum number most private insurance companies will pay for.

Do not know what country you are in. I am in the USA & I have Highmark Freedom Blue PPO insurance which is a Blue Cross plan. This plan covered everything except a $15 copay for my Retina specialist visits and his tests and the Avastin shot, with no need for pre-approval. It was covered the same as if I was going to my cardiologist for a checkup.

However, when I had to switch to Eylia in July 2018, when the Avastin stopped working, my Retina specialist had to submit for pre-approval. The insurance gave me approval for 1 year of shots of Eylia (I am getting it in one eye). I do not know what will happen after the year is up, but I assume I will again need pre-approval to continue coverage. Currently, the coverage is very good as the Eylia shot plus office visit plus testing totals over $2,200 each time and the insurance covers all except $187.

so kind of you to reply, I am in the U.K. but I also live in France.

It seems once I have a pre-existing I can have private insurance in the U.K.

I am not finding it very easy to find a consultant in my area of France but usually health care is good and more reasonable in France.

Hoping all is going well for you.

Kindest regards

Ann

Hello!

I'm in the USA. When I started injections in 2013, I was provided with information on a program from Chronic Disease Fund, a Copay Assistance Program. (Fortunately, I didn't need it as my Blue Cross/Blue Shield insurance covers my copay costs, which amount to almost $5000 for shot/visit/tests each month!!) The fund phone # (in 2013, assuming it's the same now) is 877-968-7233. Address 6900 N. Dallas Parkway, Ste 200, Plano, Tx 75024, Website: cdfund.org . GOOD LUCK!

Thank you for kindly responding, I am in the U.K. so it doesn’t cover, we have to pay privately or go through the NHS.

Hoping all going well for you.
