I have been diagnosed with above. Is it safe for me to fly long haul to India in December, before receiving any treatment?

Hi Felicity,
You don't say if it's wet or dry AMD?? If wet, treatment needs to be started urgently- if dry, this is something we can have for years without treatment being needed
Hi Felicity99. Do you have wet or dry macular degeneration ? If it's wet you should start injections quickly. If dry there is no treatment. Flying is no problem. Best wishes.
Hi Felicity
If you are not missing out treatment at the eye clinic then there should be no problem as far as your eyes are concerned. It is your atherosclerosis, depending how bad it is, that could be a problem. You definitely need to check this out with your GP. He will advise you whether it safe to go on a long-haul flight.
Ask your consultant if it is safe for you fly to India before you start treatment . I would not go unless you gain permission . I fly to Australia regularly but always tell consultant who has been very good at giving me injection just before I fly .
After you check with the md, and your trip is pled, wear compression stockings and drink lots of water.
