Does anybody else experience their joints cracking/clicking - not particularly sore but uncomfortable - what causes it?

Thanks Malcolm

Hi Malcolm, I experience this too in my ankles, hips, neck, back and shoulders. Its annoying and I don't know what to do it get rid of it. Like you say, not particularly sore, but uncomfortable. I hope that someone has the answer!

It is likely to be ligaments making the noise, rubbing over each other . If you have a connective tissue disorder your are likely to have hyper mobile joints due to the extra stretch in your different tissues. This means you can often sustain injuries through any repetitive sports etc more easily. I can always tell when my daughter is on the move as i hear the clicks of her ankles before i see her! The important thing is to try and keep as fit as possible so the muscle can help support your joints as the ligaments are not as good as doing it as they might be .

I have this also and as said by brave, worse in my shoulders. I have always called it a clunk as that is just what it felt like, it brings me to a complete stop when it happens as it is very uncomfortable. My consultant just looked at me strangely as if he had never heard of it so i feel better knowing there are others with the same problem x

I always feel better after my joints crack. Hips especially, -when they pop in the morning, I know that they are loose. On other days they can get very sore and I end up walking wobbly.

When I start flaring my legs are stiff in the morning and all you can hear is click click click. My wrists also do the same. I have to click them to reduce the pain. It definately is a symptom and NOT just an age thing. My work colleagues can also tell when I am about to flare as I look my puffy and they can physically see a reduction in my mobility.

Hope you are all feeling well at the moment. Big hugs x x c c

I understand this cracking of joints.

I have it in my neck, back, shoulders and ankles, wrists and fingers.

It does feel like it's pressure building up till it burns.

Problem with me is that that I broke my back 2 years ago so not meant to be cracking my back.

Glad that there is other people that suffer from this too.

So happy I found this website!

I realize that this is an old question posted 3-years ago, but I Googled leg and joint popping and came across your question. I only just recently registered with this site, maybe about one month or two ago. I was diagnosed four months ago with lupus and rheumatoid arthritis. Prior to the diagnosis popping leg joints was one of my earlier symptoms that something was wrong. I too had popping joints, but with no pain associated with the popping noise.

Actually, the first symptom for me was small amounts of hair loss, fatigue and tiredness and then the popping of the joints. Those symptoms came about in my mid-latter twenties in the 90's. I was only just diagnosed after years of complaining four months ago! By now you should have a diagnosis hopefully, unless your situation is like mine and it take years for an so called expert to figure it out.
