Scotty - gentle exercise (to get thoroughly warm) followed by Olbas Oil applied to the affected joints - might help you. When I was first diagnosed, I went from being superfit to seemingly crippled overnight. Instead of 80 lengths I could only swim 10 or 15, but afterwards I would use Olbas Oil which gives your joints a lovely warm glow and really does ease them up.
Be interested to see if it works for you.
Hi, I find that taking glucosamine with condroitin helps. even though the results aren't immediate and lifechanging, I do notice quite a difference if I stop using them.
Maybe worth a try.
Hi Scotty. How is your intake of omega`s 3,6,and 9? You get them from natural sources such as hemp, flaxseed, sesame seeds, sunflower seeds and pumpkin seeds. I`ve been taking these for many years now and I don`t get stiff joints anymore. I do the gym 3 times a week and run 3 times a week with NO stiffness occurring, where as before I woukld be so stiff and painful I couldn`t do much at all. I also agree with Maggi on the exercise advice. It is a MUST for us Lupies, but it is all about finding one you can do and that u enjoy. Good Luck x
Omg .how can you train a body that has extreme tendon and muscle problems ,everytime i try i end up in serious trouble ,theres only so many times you can try untill you have to admit defeat;(you must be one of the lucky ones and in a good place with your symptoms?doing a grocery shop is the biggest exercise i can do ,from being a half marathon runner a super swimmer and so much more ,exercise has been taken from me ,to a pain riddled unfit mess.I pray to be in your place soon;))))
I took a course (..in Feb 1998!) with Patrick Holford shortly after having been diagnosed with SLE. It was a very useful course, particularly as I self-manage my condition. He is a nutritional specialist, speaker and broadcaster ..written many great books on the subject of health ..also has a website: patrickholford.com). Anyway, his recommendation, for right amount of omega 3 & 6, is 2 tablespoons of the following ground seeds (on porridge, yoghurt, or in soup etc) daily - seed-mix: 1 part Pumpkin seeds, 1 part Sunflower seeds and 1 part Sesame seeds, plus 2 parts of linseeds (flax). Seeds should be organic. The mix last for 7-10 days in the fridge. I love it ..on my porridge every morning, together with grated apple and some dried fruit (fruit cooked with the porridge). I haven't thought about it until Lemonface mentioned it but my joints not often stiff now - might well be those seeds.
You can buy buy the mix ready made from holland and barrett. It is very yummy on porridge. Although the one I originally bought didnt have the pumpkin seeds in and then this time I bought the one with them in and I wasnt as keen on that one going to check out that website so thanks for sharing xxx
