I am new to this site. I have joined as I'm having a massive flare and I'm not coping very well. I just feel lupus is kicking me in the teeth wherever possible.
Can I please ask has anyone had any problems when pregnant with passing on antibodies to the child?
Thank you xxxx

Hiya & welcome. Sorry 2 hear u're having a rough time at the moment
It's worth remembering that lupus is GENETIC so u wouldn't necessarily pass on 'lupus' but u could pass on the gene that causes it (or some other autoimmune gene). However, whether or not that gene could become 'active' & develop in2 lupus is another matter.
I was born with lupus & tracing back thru our family's medical history, no1 else in our family (we traced back about 4 generations) has had anything remotely like lupus so in my case, it looks like it was a 'rogue gene'.
I have had 2 children (since my diagnosis) & although neither have been tested 4 lupus, neither child has displayed any signs of ANY autoimmune conditions & r very healthy kids. Whether this will always b the case, who's 2 say?
Hey, I have 2 children and my lupus started after having the second. They are both perfectly healthy as far as I know. As sher78 said even though you may carry the gene it may never develop. No one in my family has ever had it but I do have other autoimmune things running on my dad's side. I was 26 when mine started, my dad was in his 20s when he started getying ill. I don't blame him for being ill, who even knows it's because of his genes?! All I'd say is that no one intends to pass these things on and no one even knows if they will so don't worry, take care and enjoy your children. They bring lots of joy at times when there might not be very much. I felt awful tonight, fell asleep on the sofa and awoke having had my husband take them to bed with one if their blankets over me, a cuddly rabbit tucked up with me and a Thomas the tank book "for mummy to read when she wakes up". Bless them. X
