Lupus&pregnancy

Hi all, I got RA/SLE. At the moment I'm using methoraxate and hydroxychloroquine 200mg daily.i know I need to stop MTX to try for a baby and I can still keep using hydroxychloroquine. There's any other treatment I can use while trying for a baby??? Anyone here has been in the same situation as me. Thanks.

I had prednisilone and hydroxychloroquinne whilst pregnant with no. 1 - was fine. The baby can be a bit small though because of the steroids.

Had a massive kidney flare up immediately after giving birth and am now on the above plus azathioprine, ramapril and amilodopine. We're now trying for number 2 and the consultant has said it's fine to do so on those meds. Apparently azathioprine is completely safe to take during pregnancy. Contact the st. Thomas's lupus nurse Angie and she will give you good advice. You can contact her online and she emails u back an answer within a couple of days.!

I take 400 mg a day. Used to miss the odd day here and there when I was pregnant.

If u are of West or North African or Middle Eastern origin, u should check that u are not a carrier for G6PD. I didn't know I was a carrier and my unborn child had the actual thing, so was suffering terrible at birth from the side effect of Hydroxychloroquinne. That was the only problem I had with it whilst pregnant. I'm going to reduce it when I get pregnant next time for the same reason.

Hi joyjo, I hope you're doing fine! And managed to conceive baby no2. How did your rheumatology told you, you can start trying when u came of MTX? I've been trying for 3 mths nothing so far :-(. Feeling so disappointed and wondering if my lupus is causing this. If u got any Info pls msg me.

Hi,thanks again for the infos. Actually I'm mixed origin so I might need them to rule it out. I will ask my nurse about it on my next visit in March.
