My husband is usually very hot at the moment, this evening although his head and face were burning hot he suddenly went very cold and shivery. Is this a Lupus problem?
It's almost as though he can't regulate his temperature any more. Has anyone else experienced this?

Has your husband been diagnosed with Lupus? I have excessive sweating with my Lupus and the side effects of the drugs. I am so so hot all the time, but now and then my temperature seems to plummet and I can't stop shivering and my lips go blue, even though I am still dripping in sweat??
However, I would suggest he speaks to his consultant or gp if this is a new thing, so they can rule out an infection.
If this is a new thing, then he should try and see his gp very soon, as being hot and shivery at the same time are possible signs of an infection and can't be ignored, especially if he is on steroids and immunosuppressants.
If an infection is ruled out, then do you have a specialist nurse helpline at your rhuematology department? I find that these nurses take more time to listen to what is going on, and can speedtrack (and translate!) info from consultants. Also, have you both looked at all the side affects of his different drugs?
Another possibility is something like Raynards, but your consultant would need to diagnose that.
However, I think a call to his gp is the most important thing, as steroids etc can mask an infection, and that should be your first point of call. Good luck with the gp though, and if they don't take him seriously etc then phone the specialist nurse or rhuem dept.
I have had Lupus for a long time and experience this a lot. It is like Lupus affects your ability to regulate your temperature properly. It does seem to be worse when Lupus is more active or when you are tired. Regards Carole
Yes I get it a lot as well first i go so hot then all of a sudden I am shivering I do have fibro as well as Lupus and read somewhere that fibro can cause this.
But your Husband does need to go to GP just to get it checked in case he does have an infection
I have had the same problem for the last 20 years, needless to say being a Lady of 40+ years the doctors said it was 'my age' sometimes it is so bad I have to wear a towel round my neck. My hair is just dripping wet and I dread going anywhere special. Then when I get the shivers, all my body feels like Ice yet I feel hot to the touch and have to wrap Loads of blankets round me. It is worse at night as I often have to change nighties several times when bad and have blankets at the side of the bed in case I get the shivers. If any of you know Anything that helps I would PLEASE like to know.x
so its not just me?! for the first time this year im having trouble controlling my tempreture too. ive had sle lupus since 2005. i can go from "ideal temp" to burning within seconds and i sweat alot which is embarissing to say the least.
i had my blood tested for early onset of menopause as just hit the "magic" 40 years old but came back ok. gp nurse suggested black kohosh or red clover which are natural remidies to help hot flushes BUT to check with my specialist first, wont see her til december so having to suffer until then couldnt find any information about several things until i found this website. i now know im not alone battling to live with sle x
Don't want to worry anyone but my husband suffered very bad sweats so he went to see gp who ran a blood test in which blood cancer show.up so he sees a very good consultant ran further tests.appently they don't do anything until it gets worse.i hope i have helped and not frightened anyone good luck Anne-john &God bless x
Thankful for your comment. I deal with this and my dr told me it was common with Lupus. What are y'all's resting temps? Mine is always been around 97. Check your temp when your having a temp episode, sometimes mine is elevated, but mine has been known to drop to 96 while I'm shaking under tons of blankets. Laying in a hot bath and letting the temp drop till I feel comfortable is the best way I have found to regulate my temp when it goes haywire :).
