Hi it could be due to what medication you are taking as some times it states to avoid sun or maybe you need to use a high factor sun cream. I have had lupus for many years now I am on Mycophenalate Mofetil and i can be out there for 5 mins and can turn as red as a beetroot!!! So when in England it is 30 factor and when i go abroad it is 50 factor as I do like to holiday... Hope it is a help

Intolerance of anything can build up, even skin care products that were fine to start with. People with lupus need to be careful with sun even if their skin is not affected - internal disease activity can flare and people can often feel quite ill after sun exposure. Your body is telling you something.

Strength of UVA and UVB rays differ, and that's what causes sun sensitivity in us lupies. It provokes immune system activity the skin. I've had horrendous joint swelling in the past. Factor 50 on prescription for me.

Hi, I don't understand why you have not been told to stay out of the sun, as i was told when i was diagnosed with lupus 5 years ago. I use factor 50 if i have to go out in the sun and still get a rash if out for to long. Take care of your self,

Hi, I agree with Loveof pets, I was diagnosed with SLE Lupus 12 years ago and the first thing that my Consultant told me was to stay out of the sun as it can easily trigger a flare of your condition. You can still enjoy the sunny days but stay out of direct sunlight ....full stop.
