Sleep
Hi there, sorry you are having trouble sleeping.....I have the same problem which has been for the last 15 years and was eventually put on Amitriptyline, i still get nights where i don't sleep at all but overall it does balance out (anything better than nothing)!!!!
Wishing you a good nights sleep
xx
Feeling the same way this week - end up napping in the day and then it's even harder to go to bed at night.
Any suggestions for restless legs - they're driving me mad!!!!!!!!
Quinine works well for restless legs.
Hi nouska,. I never heard of. Quinine do u have 2get them of ur doc?
Qualaquin (Quinine sulfate) is available by prescription.
Quinine is known to be effective in the prevention of nocturnal leg cramps.
Studies have shown that it can reduce the incidence of cramps by one-third to one-half but that as many as one in every 25 users can suffer serious side effects.
Given the side effect profile of quinine, non-pharmacologic therapy (e.g., regular passive stretching of the affected muscle) is the best first-line treatment. For persons who find this ineffective and whose quality of life is significantly affected, a trial of quinine is warranted.
Prescribing physicians must closely monitor the risks and benefits in individual patients.
And no … there is not a sufficient amount of quinine in tonic water to offer any benefit.
I do hate it and it happens to often :/
I tried Amitriptyline but that didn't work for me, as it had the opposite effect and kept me wide awake :/
As a life-long insomniac I find the sleep patterns with my SLE very weird
I either sleep for England (often up to 10+ hours) or sit up till the small hours then wake early ...and it's totally unpredictable, like pretty much everything else with this bl**dy disease.
Less than a year ago I was working full-on and full-time and partying most weekends; if someone offered me £1m a day I couldn't do it now!
I know were u r comin from halfpint, i recently started. Back 2 work after. 6 years its hard goin, i am workin 4 hours a day and its enough trust me its sore on the knees standin all day, for the partyin 2 i had 2 give that up 2 coz i losted so many friends due 2 bein in pain most of the time and cancelin on friends
Tell me about it! I hate it when this happens, or when your in a very light sleep and you wake up feeling awful!
I empathise with all of the above comments. I have had SLE for nigh on 25 years and I have not had a proper nights sleep it seems like forever! I have been through many sleeping pills, but this latest one, Nitrazepam, seems to suit me but still not proper resful sleep. I often find that just as I am about to drop off I get restless legs and not just legs my shoulders and arms! I pray that all my fellow sufferers get some restful sleep!
I usually give it about an hour and if I find that I still can't sleep, I get up and get a cup of tea(decaf of course as I have been advised by my Consultant Rheumatologist to stay away from caffeine). After about an hour I try to go to sleep again.
I have had SLE for 25years withantiphosholipid syndrome. I have found that after many different drug types,DULOXETINE has been brilliant for restless legs syndrome. It is an antidepressant but trials found out that it was also good for restless legs and the burning you get in your legs and feet due to diabetes. I hope this is helpful for you. Do let me know if you have any success with it.
Best wishes from. Christine Lince. x
