Hi Mystik. I am sorry to hear you are going through this. Vertigo is debilitating and scary and can greatly affect quality of life and mental well being. You have both my sympathy and understanding because I have experienced this too.
Can I ask if you have been assessed and treated by a physio who specialises in vertigo? I was lucky enough to get this help on the NHS, but if that isn't available you could maybe consider going private. My exercises were adapted for me and my particular triggers.
I know you probably don't want to hear this, but I was told that in my circumstances ( and this may not be the same for you), the worst thing to do was not move around. Each time you move, you train your vestibular system, eyes brain etc a little bit more. I was also told over reliance on medication for vertigo makes long term recovery more difficult. Little and often is best for moving and carrying out the exercises - mine were Cawthorne-Cooksie.
During my worst times with vertigo, I always wore a cap with a big peak. This cuts down some of the visual information you have to deal with. I still wear one outside even now. I also sometimes use a stick to give another point of balance. Even though I have come a long way from where I was, walking on different surfaces, wearing new shoes, dim lighting, patterned carpets, shiny surfaces and a host of other things still cause problems.
I do hope things improve for you. Vertigo is another invisible illness that unless you have experienced it you find it difficult to really understand. All the best to you.
I had it on and off for years since having a brain haemorrhage. It's taken 12 years but I have been diagnosed with lack of proprioception by my occupational therapist of all people. It makes you very clumsy too. By focusing on one action at a time, looking at what I'm doing rather than looking at other things, slowly I have improved. I took Stemitil for a while which helped a bit but not huge amounts. It must be so debilitating for you and frustrating. I'm guessing you have tried the Epley maneuver. That gave me dome relief.
I hesitate to tell you this story but it shows there are many causes of dizziness. A lady I know well was so dizzy and light headed for a couple of years. After a few different doctors offering suggestions, a specialist properly looked in her ears. Turns out she'd had a spider in there for 2 years, alive and dead with webs in there. Once removed she was totally fine. Just shows there is a large amount of causes of vertigo, some are just bizarre. 😵 don't give up investigating and getting some help. As the last person said, physio could be a hood route.
Thank u so much for your support
I m taking stemitil it does help also doing the
Epley Maneuver exercises I had seen 3 ent drs they checked ✔️ everything! Let’s see what happens , I did hear about someone having a spider or an insect on their ears !
Once again thank u so much
So glad that you have doctors looking into things. It's so awful to feel like your on the deck of a ship and feeling sick when your on dry land. Have a try just focusing your brain on the one thing you are doing and nothing else it does help for me (when I remember!) Depends I guess as to whether its coming from your ears, brain or something else. I found when I was put on Amitriptyline for pain a while ago it made me extra dizzy. Hopefully the doctor has reviewed your medication though.
Thank u 🙏🏽 god bless
Mystik - if you are doing the Epley, I assume you have been diagnosed with BPPV vertigo?
yes that’s what they said it’s vertigo also having a mri let’s see
