Hi folks ,Thought I share you my picks of the garden the far left pot of strawberries was picked This morning the other 2 was pick the last 2 days morning and evening. Yes , they have been crazy ripening in the garden. I also have 2 blueberries plants one of them is currently rippening like mad the other is still plumping up which is good and I am glad because I would not know but would probably end up freezing the blueberries(left over from this morning after I had for my breakfast)if both of them started ripening together.
Raspberry (left over after I had for my breakfast)are in fruit and well.

It was a similar scene here yesterday! I thought I'd only get a handful, but discovered lots hiding and ended up with about 500g of strawberries. Our blueberries, gooseberries and cherries don't do as well and it's usually a competition between us & birds/squirrels about who gets there first 😂 I haven't even checked the blackcurrants yet (I only learned a couple of years ago you can infuse milk with blackcurrant leaves and make things like ice cream). Our pear tree is coming along nicely again, but the apple trees look like they're having a break this year. That makes our garden sound huge, but it's not, it's just we decided to grow fruit rather than flowers.
I had a homemade buckwheat waffle with some strawberries and yoghurt for breakfast 🍓
Just jammed my 800gm of strawberries just now got 3 full bottles, we decided to net our strawberries and blueberries last year and this year. The birds got through some of the blueberries and the blackberries ( size of my thumb length ) but they don't seem to go for the mulberries (dwarf variety) at all they are sweet. Not many blackberries this year for some reason. Not too sure if it is the weather. Decided not to net the blackberries as it was not worth it as it is only a handful of them this year .
Normally we have to fight with the Squirrels and the bird with our fruits they don't leave any behind for us 😅 one of them strip one of the blueberries branches clean even before it was ripe .That is what got us netting this year.
Oh, I bet that jam will be so flavoursome! I used to love making jam, but my wrists/thumbs have struggled with pans and things in recent years. I'm hoping that I can get it under control at some point, so I can start again. It's very rewarding, growing your own fruit and turning it into jam or using it in a recipe.
We keep seeing squirrels (or just the one) burying monkey nuts in the garden. I don't know if they're stockpiling and we've got no idea where they're getting the monkey nuts from either. My husband keeps finding them when he does a bit of gardening.
I find blackberries are usually later than everything else, even as late as October. There are quite a lot growing wild near us. A few years ago we picked 2kg from the edge of the railway line (one advantage of living next to a railway line, I suppose!) then the council sprayed a load of weed killer there, but I'm happy to see they look like they might be back this year. We also live near a road that is the title of a very famous song by a very famous band and blackberries grow there too, so I might make some blackberry jelly later in the year, with my husband's help.
Shouts SUMMER!! Makes a change because all I seem to be doing is shouting at Summer! Looks like a lovely crop. It's the strawberry flowers that I love especially the alpines - just so delicate. I grow them just for the flowers so anything else I get before my very tame and cheeky blackbird is a bonus. Thanks for sharing, obvs the photo - not the strawberries because that would be impossible 🙏 enjoy your weekend 😀
