INSECT BITE OVERREACTION Could this trigger lupus or lupus like reaction?

I felt rotten for a couple of days. Then woke up the third day with a really big blistery looking bite on my right thumb. It looked really inflamed and had a sort of paler ring around it and around that there was a rectangle of inflammation spread round thumb and to the base. As the day wore on,more and more slightly smaller pink round & some oval shaped bites/lumps appeared. These mainly on my left leg and left arm and wrist. On my left fore-arm, there was also a round,red, rough patch just 50p -sized. It became covered in teensy wee fluid filled blisters. I had chills, sweats and fainted that afternoon.

I felt lousy, achy everywhere stiff neck , stiff joints and and absolutely chilled to the bone . I could barely drag myself upstairs and had to sit down after going upstairs. My husband then noticed my eyes were red and bloodshot but not sticky like normal eye infection. The spots and bups on legs faded to weird bruises sort of greyish purple.

I got dreadful diahorrea with what looked like coffee grounds the following night , after really severe acid reflux.

I went to my GP on the Monday bcos on the Sunday, out of hours said I didnt need seen. My GP took one good look at me,heard my story of old blood digested in poo and sent me to Admissions at hospital. They took blood. No exam at all. 10 hour wait. God love the seriously ill,hope they were seen quicker

All blood tests came back normal initially and it was felt there was no gastric bleed as suspected by GP

She suspected this bcos my BP kept dropping at surgery and the digested blood flecks in poo.

The day after hospital my GP re- did all the usual bloods and different ones. She tested for Lymes Disease and Rheumatoid factor. Lymes Disease test negative so far. I don't recall a tick. But the initial bite looked typical of tick bite.

She said inflammatory markers elevated but didnt specify which ones showed this. I was given anti bios for suspected Lymes and certainly most of the aches and pains and soreness of neck have gone.

After 2 weeks most of the spots have dried out and left pinkish mark altho some have left those bruises. Legs still have bruisy type scarring

Eyes still bloodshot and a bit sore and blurry.

Everyone baffled. I am very fatigued. GP mentioned auto immune reactions ? Anyone else have any thoughts?

Hi 1304. No one can diagnose you however even to help you is baffling without what I would consider to be most important: we’re you or are you in an area of noted ticks, spiders or even poison ivy? I have had similar although not as dramatic symptoms due to tick and poison ivy.

That being said It is noted that inflated reactions to bug/ notably mosquito bites may be a harbinger to future autoimmune issues. Growing up my mosquito bites could be larger than an American half dollar. A tick bite on my leg several years ago had so many rings around it I felt like an aged oak tree. Fatigue, swollen glands and more drama. I needed 4 weeks of antibiotics before I felt “normal.” My “normal” lupus self. If you continue to have symptoms of Lyme disease ask that you be tested again. And maybe a different antibiotic. And the try to recall the places you have been and if you have any animals.
