Epilators

Hi, long term steroid use has given me a hairy face and neck. Some are coarse on the face but very fine and fluffy on my neck. I use hair removing cream at the moment but been thinking of investing in a good epilator. Has anyone got experience of them please? Some reviews suggest that they cause inflammation, acne and white spots. Thanks.

I used my Braun epilator when I had a pred beard! It worked fine and I had no problems. Since then they have developed ones specifically for facial use.

I must be pathetic. I had one (epilator) that was designed specifically for the face and boy the pain of pulling each little hair out was excruciating. The lead up to using it was the worst bit knowing what was coming. The tiny little fluffy bits around my nose were the worst and it used to get slower through the peach fuzz. I didn't even notice the hairs growing back less either. Everyone could see what I had been doing too. I've also had electrolysis for what seemed like an eternity and still couldn't get rid of the stubborn one coarse hair on my neck. I've bought a "light" activated one which was to be fair painless, cost a lot of money and now I can't use because of the concentrated light sensitivity. My solution is my Hollywood Browzer (battery operated) which I really like, lots of people on here say it's just a razor, but I particularly like the precision head which gets the tiniest little hairs. Peach fuzz is really satisfying. Finally, it does not leave my skin hot and red. Obviously personal choice and this is the "tool" of my choice. I'm full of admiration for those that use epilators, my experience was rather like the episode of Friends where Monica and Phoebe use the "no pain" wax and end up having to keep going even though the pain is laughably painful. Joey ends up eating it. 🙏 Matthew Perry 🙏 Good luck 👍

I’m a 100% with you, I also tried waxing. Why do we put ourselves through all the pain 😁 I love my flawless gadgets and the satisfying plucking of the odd stray hair on the chin 😂

I am so with you. I tried an epilator once and ended up bleeding from tiny pin prick holes. I threw the damned thing. I have tried waxing but tend to get the same bleeding. Creams cause burn like marks so I use a tiny little razor and a tweezers xx

Hi, I used one for years you get used to the discomfort . I found underarms the worst . It’s a lot better if you pull your skin taught first. Then it’s a lot less of a sting as it pulls the hair out.

Recently though I bought a no name by some Italian company light ipl thing and honestly it’s great on prime day I got a good discount so it was about £65 not in the hundreds like other brand names and I know it was a big chance but it had tons of reviews . Anyway I now use a dermaplane thing . When you use the ipl things you have to do it 3 times a week to start with but it’s quick and painless . It gets a bit warm . I’m dark in colouring wise hair mainly so I was hairy to start with add in early menopause and lupus meds. I got alopecia but it didn’t make me lose facial hair or bikini or leg hair 😞. Anyway leg wise I’ve got I would say around 85% less hair and I barely do the ipl treatment these days like once a month or every other month ! I use it more frequently on my face because those blooming stray black hairs are as pesky as anything !

After watching a load of YouTube adverts on hair removing creams, expensive shavers, hugely expensive feminised pink coloured razors…🥹😱 etc etc etc

I found the best shaver/epilator/exfoliator is a SIMPLE, TWO BLADED, DISPOSABLE razor found in most supermarkets costing £pence per unit for males! Yes, honestly!👏👆🤣

Dry dead skin, hair, whether downy, bristly, stiff or whatever is removed hygienically without fuss.

Note electric razors clog up with debris that bacteria love to feed on!😱 So difficult to clean properly! Can’t soak an electric razor in disinfectant, can you!?😩 Even razors stink if they’re not rinsed properly! All the dead skin flakes, bits of hair, dirt, peach fuzz etc stuck on the blades being food for bacteria causes the smell!🥹😩

Those silly online influencers eg from Tik Tok, YouTube etc can be truly daft and misleading. Of course they all love their commission! Most are too stupid to understand Prednisolone induced hirsuitism?!😩🤣 It’s all “dermaplaning” to them with a hugely expensive , designer, celebrity endorsed, over the top, blade+kit?!

I can assure all that my kit works.👏👍🤣

Waxing you have to let it grow which I hate. I had laser on dark hairs, it didn't hurt, had 4 sessions on armpits and bikini over a year and will never get hair there again. I did go for laser on my legs but for some reason I started to get rashes on them so had to stop. For fluffy facial hair, I grab hubby's electric razor, it's kinder to my skin than waxing or wet razor.

I've used facial epilator for years. Does the trick. No inflammation and only a bit of discomfort briefly while whizzing over my chin and cheeks. All good. Used to have electrolysis and tried waxing but this much easier and cheaper.
