Personal Independence Payment

Hi all,

Hope you're all keeping okay? I have applied for PIP for the first time. I suffer from joint pains, muscle aches, headaches, extreme fatigue and nausea everyday despite my heavy list of medication I'm on daily and infusions monthly. Rheumy have advised they thought I would be almost 'symptom free' by now but I'm not.

I've applied for PIP and it's been rejected despite noting all my daily struggles. My hope was to be able to at the very least cut down some hours at work or be able to get a cleaner to help around the house.

It's been rejected, mandatory reconsideration has been rejected and now I'm not even sure whether to appeal or not because I'm not sure I've got the strength?

Between working full time and all my appointments.. I currently feel quite exhausted. Does anybody have any advice? I know a lot of people have this trouble with PIP just feeling a bit deflated. Xx

I’d advise joining benefits and work website and get all their info.

I was just going to suggest that too. It is a really comprehensive guide step by step what you need to put in to give you the best chance of getting PIP. I had to fight hard for my DLA prior to PIP but then I subscribed to this site and realised what I thought was important about my health issues were not necessarily what the DWP consider important to award benefits. Don’t give up. Good luck xx

Hi Simbob ,I suggest don't give up ...take it to tribunal ...I have had mine rejected 3 times from dwp ....but when I took it to tribunal all 3 times (which is independent ,whit their on dr reumatologist neurologist and judge) they didn't even had to go thither case with ...as all my medical paper was enough to give me pip ....So ...get ready for the battle cause dwp will give you hell....but don't give up!!!!if you need help filling up paper lots of charity and citizen adviser are happy to help you ....good luck I'm sure you will win!

HiSad see stress they putting you threw,

Tips

Take all medical letters especially with diagnosis on.

Don't go on your own it goes against you, don't try do things ask you to which u normally struggle with .

Say causing you lot pain don't play things down go as if worst day.

Citizens advice good helping fill form in hope that helps

Hi Soul22,

Thank you, I think this is where I went wrong. I need to gather all of my appointment/ consultation letters.

I think I might try and get an advocate for my tribunal for support. It's easy to forget things when you've got so much to tell!

Thanks for the advice, hope you're well!

hi I tried for ten years to get dwp as it was then but then went to the citizens advice beauroe they hardly put anything in writing and kept it to the point I had been over filling it for years thinking this was what they wanted and I got it on that one attempt so the site others recommend please do also maybe give cab a visit good luck

Hi Loopyloo43

Hope you're well.. 10 years!! That must have been so stressful and frustrating. Glad you managed to sort it.

I will do thank you so much 🙏

I would suggest, and this is coming from someone who works for pip, not talk about things you can do, talk about things you can't do, and find difficult, like others on this site, get as much evidence together, hospital, letters from gp, discuss if you get help from family members, and get advice from CAB, good luck and don't give up x

Appeal please 🙏 Fact - the contractors DWP use get paid extra for rejections. So, it's zero surprise that rejection stats are high 😡 It's a disgusting practice but if you know the 'rules of the game' then it's so worthwhile to appeal. Sounds like you genuinely need a break, so don't be a 'heroine' and pretend you can do more than you actually can ..... definitely a faulty gene in females with family responsibilities! 😊

I hate even having to say this, as I've never 'gamed' a system in my life, or claimed benefits but when you need it, you need it. Good luck 🍀

Hi lupieibbie

Thank you so much 🙏 - I didn't know that and it's super disgusting.

And you're right because I'll only end up burning the candle from both ends and that's dangerous chronic illness or not!!

Appreciate your reply. Hope you're keeping well ❤️
